10 Questions for Canadian Mini O’s Racers | ##33 Sam Matthews

By Billy Rainford

Once again, we had a strong contingent of Canadian amateur racers head south to the Mini O’s to race both Supercross and Motocross. Since it would have been impossible to snag them all for interviews when the racing ended on Saturday before they left for home, we’ve decided to ask them all the same 10 questions.

#33 Sam Matthews

Sam Matthews raced 250B Ltd., and 450B Ltd..

Direct Motocross: How old are you and where are you from?

Sam Matthews: I am 17 years old and am from Clifford, Ontario.

How did you get into Motocross?

I got into motocross from watching Ricky Carmichael on TV.

How many times have you been to the Mini O’s?

First time ever to Mini O’s this year.

What did you like better, SX or MX?

I like Motocross way more than Supercross.

Sam was most impressed by the riding of #47 Jo Shimoda.

What was your best race on the SX track? (Sorry, they all get the same questions)

Didn’t really have a solid race. I couldn’t put the track together because I never have ridden one before.

What was your best race on the MX track?

I didn’t have luck on my side racing MX. I missed the transfer spot by 1 each time and then crashed out in the LCQ.

What did you think of the event?

All in all, the event was really fun.

Who impressed you the most that you saw race?

Honestly, Jo Shimoda impressed me the most. He’s such a talented rider.

Do you plan on going back?

I would love to go back, but after next summer racing is on the table.

Over the winter, Sam will head down to MP County Line and do their 3-week camp to get ready for 2019.

What are your winter plans?

My winter plans are to head down to MP County Line for 3 weeks in March and do the camp.

Who would you like to thank?

I would like to thank my mom and dad for everything that they do for me and for the trip to Mini O’s, my nana and papa for supporting me, Country Corners for the unreal bike support and their gear and everything they do, Delta Power Equipment, Flybyu motosports, and Motopark for all the training help!
