10 Questions for Canadian Mini O’s Racers | #343 Max Filipek

By Billy Rainford

Once again, we had a strong contingent of Canadian amateur racers head south to the Mini O’s to race both Supercross and Motocross. Since it would have been impossible to snag them all for interviews when the racing ended on Saturday before they left for home, we’ve decided to ask them all the same 10 questions.

#343 Max Filipek

Max Filipek raced 250B, College Boy (16-24). and 450B.

Direct Motocross: How old are you and where are you from?

Max Filipek: I’m 19 years old and I’m from Grimsby, Ontario, Canada, about a half hour from Niagara Falls.

How did you get into Motocross?

I got into motocross through my dad. He raced back in the day and so did his brother and dad…sort of runs in the blood!

How many times have you been to the Mini O’s?

This year was my second time at Mini O’s.

What did you like better, SX or MX?

Definitely MX, although I do wish I got to race it. I need a little more SX practice.

Max was most impressed with Jarrett Frye.

What was your best race on the SX track? (Sorry, they all get the same questions)

Unfortunately, I had some bad luck and my best finish was 23rd. The racing was really tight and aggressive and I got taken out one moto and the piston in my shock shock blew apart while running in the top 10 in another.

What was your best race on the MX track?

I ended up straining my knee which I already had torn the ACL in and was unable to race MX.

What did you think of the event?

I think it’s a great event and I love going. There is great competition and I love Gatorback, it’s such a fun track.

Who impressed you the most that you saw race?

Jerrett Frye. He’s very smooth and calculated. When he got out front he was gone.

Do you plan on going back?

Absolutely! This is one of my favourite events I look forward to every year.

This winter will be spent getting his knee healed up.

What are your winter plans?

Right now, rehab my knee and get it strong. Whether I’m getting surgery or not is still undecided.

Who would you like to thank?

Mom, Dad, Girlfriend & whole family, Sunguard awnings & patio, Enclover,  Trican, Real Deal MX Training Facility, FXR, Apex Cycle, Team Holeshot Motorsports, Dirtticks, Ogs optics, and Fusion Graphix.
