Atlanta SX | Things You Don’t See on TV – Opening Ceremonies

By Billy Rainford

You’re going to need to go see a Supercross in person if you want to check out the hype and build-up before the racing starts at a Monster Energy AMA Supercross.

Here’s a closer look at some of the action from round 9 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta this past Saturday night.

Atlanta SX opening ceremonies.

They ask everyone to turn on their phone’s flashlight for this effect.

The top 10 get introduced to the crowd. Justin Brayton sits 10th.

#7 Aaron Plessinger is 8th. #51 Justin Barcia is 9th but wasn’t racing due to concussion precautions.

#22 Chad Reed is 7th.

#15 Dean Wilson is 6th in points.

I missed #4 Blake Baggett who sits 5th.

#3 Eli Tomac is currently 4th in points.

#25 Marvin Musquin is 3rd.

#94 Ken Roczen is 2nd.

#2 Cooper Webb is the current points leader and doesn’t look like he wants to give it up any time soon.

Then they all do a hot lap and bust out whips for the crowd instead of sitting on the start straight and getting interviewed. I think it goes over better with the fans.

I gave Kenny 3rd place in the official ‘Cheer-O-Meter’ rankings this week.

You knew this was coming from Marv!

The cheering was close for runner-up spot between Ken and Eli Tomac, but I gave it to Eli this week.

It wasn’t even close as Chad Reed has been the crowd favourite at every round this year. Yes, I realize this photo isn’t sharp, but it’s the only one I have of his nac-nac, so…

That’s some of what you miss if you don’t go see a race live. We’ll be at Daytona International Speedway this weekend, so it will be a little different. See you there.
