Jacob Hayes Injury Update

Good news, nothing is broken! | Bigwave photo

During the first moto at Moto Valley Raceway last week in Regina, Saskatchewan, #100 Jacob Hayes had  engine problems that sent him violently over the bars in a highspeed section of the track.

The end result was Jacob getting a lift back to the Monster Energy Alpinestars Kawasaki pits in the medic mule.

When we went to find Jacob in his pits, we found him with his right leg elevated and in pain. This is the same ankle Jacob broke back in January. There are pins still in place, so Jacob wasn’t sure of the extent of the damage, so he decided it was best to sit out the 2nd moto.

On Monday, his mechanic, Mike Smith, took him to the airport where he flew home to North Carolina to get checked out. He saw a doctor about a sore knee on Tuesday where it was determined he had suffered more of a sprain and that nothing was seriously damaged.

On Wednesday, he went to see a doctor about his ankle where it was also determined he hadn’t re-broken the ankle or damaged the pins in his ankle, but that it was more of a sprain situation.

Jacob expects to be back on the bike and riding some sand before he heads north for round 5 of the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals at Gopher Dunes.

He and the team have “been going back and forth” to ensure they have the bike ready to go for Jacob when he gets to Gopher Dunes.

Great news, Jacob. See you next week!
