Monday Morning with Bigwave

At least it’s not snowing! That’s all I can say about what we’re experiencing down here since the checkered flag waved for the final main event Saturday night here in Daytona, Florida. Yes, I realize I’m missing some crazy March weather back home in Canada, but when you drive this far for some racing, you don’t want to wish you’d brought your rain gear! One day I’ll learn…

Anyway, it’s Monday and that means it’s the final day of racing here for the 2017 RCSX at the Daytona International Motor Speedway. I showed up Saturday morning, nice and early, to pick up my credentials and photo vest. “I’m sorry, sir, you don’t usually ask for a vest for Pro Day.” Um, what?! Yes I do. In fact, I almost got run over last year when Justin Bogle got a little out of control and went off the track. I even joked with another photographer on the track because we are both apparently cheapskates and were wearing the same checkered shirt from a Vans Outlet Store!

So, there I was, taking photos from the sidelines…

Not to worry, though. Since they’d already given out their 30 photo vests, they agreed to give me what they call, “Trackside Access.” Now, normally this would suck, but here at the speedway, it was the exact same as having a vest because there wan’t anywhere you could go on the track so we were all forced to walk up and down the track on the one side. No big deal.

I’m back at the track now waiting for opening ceremonies to start in about 10 minutes, so we’ll have to make this quick…

Doesn’t look so bad, right?

Ya, well…

Look who I found in a van down by the river! That’s Mitch Cooke, Nick May, and Jeremy Medaglia.

I’ve got lots of photos from the event, but it’s time for opening ceremonies here. Gotta go…

RCSX

Let’s go racing.
