Good Monday Morning. Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Let’s start with the good stuff and build up to what is quickly becoming one of my weirdest travel stories yet.

I’m sitting in a Denny’s just west of Tallahassee, Florida, (Midway, Fla. to be exact) right now. No, this isn’t really by choice, but I may be getting very familiar with this place in the foreseeable future. We’ll get to that.

We just wrapped up a great week of racing at the 2019 Thor Mini O’s Presented by Pro Circuit. I say “great” because there was a class in the MX portion of the week that saw Canadians go 1-2 in the overall. That doesn’t happen very often!

I’m going to qualify my choice of descriptive words because, although we had some soaring highs this week, we also saw a few too many lows, also.

For starters, young #61 Ben Mistelbacher didn’t get very far in his racing this week. He had troubles his very first time on the track in the SX portion and that was it for him. He’s nursing a tweaked wrist and wasn’t out there at all.

Young #409 Brendan Schofield from Nova Scotia also got taken out in the early stages of the SX racing. The key to the early days of the week is to make it through the first few corners of the races. With riders so close on the SX-style track, it’s chaos out there until things spread out a little.

Brendan found that out the hard way in one of his races and was out with an injury, too.

#19 Brett Higdon from Summerside, PEI was also here but I didn’t even get the chance to snap a photo of him. I’m not 100% on his injury but I think he tweaked something and they decided to sit the rest of the week out.

#18 Leith Ness didn’t get hurt, per se,, but he was battling some extremely deep blisters on his throttle hand that really hindered his riding. There are blisters that sting a little, and then there are the deep ones that he suffered that go more to the pain area than simply stinging. If you’ve ever been there, and I’m sure you have, it’s no joke.

#494 Thomas Rendall made it through the SX racing and was set to compete in Schoolboy 1 and the 125 B/C races when he over-jumped and the force snapped his right wrist.

He was off to the hospital where they set his bones for him and off the headed back to Canada.

#22 Richard Krzemien slid out and went down on the MX track and headed off to the hospital to get his shoulder checked out. He came back with his arm in a sling.

The minute we start fooling ourselves into thinking this isn’t an extreme sport is the minute we set ourselves up for trouble. Motocross can jump up and bite you at almost any time. Thomas is one of the smoother riders out there. He just came back from those two broken arms and is now back on the sidelines. Dang!

On the positive side, #43 Noah Viney and #2 Sebastien Racine had banner years here at the Mini O’s.

We all know that these two riders are next level talents, so we shouldn’t be too surprised at this performance, but it still had my chest puffed up a few extra sizes as the circulated out front and had announcers Wes Cain, Jeff Hines, and Rodney Tomblin talking about Canada like that.

It was in the competitive 85 (12-13) Ltd. class. Noah went 2-1 and Sebastien went 3-3. The top riders were all so close in speed that it took good starts and consistent, error-free riding to get it done.

Congratulations to these two riders who came up honing their skills at the Sand Del Lee track just outside Ottawa. Kevin Tyler and Johnny Grant just can’t help creating winners! LOL

I have the horrible feeling that I’m missing a Canadian or two. If so, I’m sorry.

The place was absolutely packed this year, so it’s a really good sign for the event and for the sport in general. Wyn Kern was very happy with the way things turned out.

I heard there were over 2600 entries in the MX part of the week! Thank you to Fox Racing Canada, Sand Del Lee, and MP at County Line for helping make this a great trip (up to this point).

Also, a huge thank you to Brianna Millsaps and David Doyle for hosting me at their place in Gainesville all week. I still went to the Starbucks each night to do my photo reports because it just feels right for this race.

We went for a nice easy MTB ride on Sunday and I managed to snap a derailleur hanger on my bike after talking David into doing a second loop. Figures.

See you next year, Gatorback!

Dylan Wright Racing Geneva SX

The next race on the international SX schedule has Canadian 250 champion Dylan Wright racing the Geneva Supercross this coming weekend.

The Monster Energy Supercross Geneva, a must-see event at the end of the year, brings together several international drivers on one of Europe’s largest indoor tracks. A major sporting event in Switzerland, it has welcomed some 30,000 spectators for almost 34 editions.
This year, on December 6 and 7, 2019, the sport will once again combine suspense, strong emotions, friendliness and glamour. Everything is there to share a special moment with collaborators, friends or family.

Here’s the race website: https://supercross-geneve.com/pilotes-2019/

OK, I’m going to close the show with a little “Story Time.” Buckle up!

My plan for today was to head over to MP at County Line this morning to see who we have training and riding there. I was going to snag as much Canadian content as I could before heading off to my next destination, The Goat Farm.

Josh Cartwright got permission for me to head up to Cairo, GA for a day of riding and training at Ricky Carmichael‘s place, and I was pretty pumped.

My next stop would be GPF and MTF, also in the “greater Cairo” area, as I made my way home to Canada. It looked like a perfect plan, right?

Well, I left Gainesville Sunday afternoon after snapping my derailleur hanger on my MTB and made my way toward Tallahassee where I figured I’d simply pull over, climb into the back of the van and sleep for the night at a restaurant/truck stop. No biggie.

So, I find a Flying J/Denny’s in a place called Midway, Florida, that is just a few minutes west of the state capital. Perfect.

I find a parking place, shut the van off and get ready to sleep when I notice they’re playing some pretty loud music over a PA system. That wouldn’t work, so I decided to repark.

I move over closer to the Denny’s entrance and find a spot. Well, wouldn’t you know it, I was getting a little bit of a wifi signal, but not much, so I repark again al little closer to the building. Perfect, I can watch some Netflix before dozing off.

I didn’t even get to start a movie and I was sound asleep. It was a long week at the Mini O’s and I welcomed an early night.

You won’t believe what happened next.

I woke up to the most violent, loud, banging and crashing I’ve ever experienced! What the hell was happening?!

I sat up as the van was bouncing and crunching its way across the parking lot! I was still groggy and couldn’t piece together what was going on.

My mind cleared a little and I could see the side of a transport truck through my window, but still couldn’t quite make any sense of what I was going through. It seemed to go on for at least 30 seconds!

The violence finally stopped and the van rocked to a standstill. What had just happened?!

I pulled myself together and got ready to step out of the van and try to make sense of it all.

I slid the door open and there were people all over the place, running around and chasing the transport truck across the parking lot.

A guy came up and asked if I was OK and I said that I thought I was. I ran to the front of the place to see the manager and another guy chasing the transport over to where they fuel up.

I didn’t even have my glasses on or my phone on me when I caught up to them and we started talking about what had happened.

The driver was up in the rig and didn’t seem too concerned about anything. The one guy was yelling at her about what she’d done and she acted as if she didn’t even know she’d hit anything! I suppose it’s possible.

They’d already called the police and a couple cruisers showed up to get the story from both of us.

A lady that was working at Denny’s said that the exact same thing happened to her in that same parking spot about a month-and-a-half ago, but she wasn’t in the vehicle. It did $6000 worth of damage to her pick-up truck.

The manager said a truck had dragged at least 4 vehicles across the lot another time before that! He explained that it was why he never parked in that particular spot. Noted.

Anyway, I won’t be heading to MP at County line and it looks like my cool trip to the Goat Farm will have to be postponed until another time.

I’m currently drinking coffee and typing at the Denny’s waiting for a call from the insurance adjuster.

I can’t turn my steering wheel and so I’m sort of stuck here at this truck stop for the foreseeable future! Please forward any mail to my new address…

Oh, here’s a look at the end result of the war zone last night:

Not the best way to wake up in the middle of the night!

As you can see, the trailing wheels of the rig were trying to make their way over or through the front end of the vehicle and were bouncing the DMX Van all over the place. It was a wild ride!

Anyway, I’ve got lots of content to go through from a busy week in Florida, and it looks like I’m going to have some time to do it.

Have a great week, everyone.
