Manitoba Motocross Association: Race Report from Northern Lites Raceway, Gimli

Report and Photos by Doug and Troy Engstrom

Gimli’s Northern Lites Raceway played host to round three of the Westside Honda Spring Provincial Championship series. After Mother Nature put a beating on the promoters pocketbook twice in 2008 it was only fitting they got as close to a spring day as we’ve seen in 2009.

Stefan Rohm has been a model of consistency in the MX-1 Junior class in 2009. Rohm has yet to win a moto but with his overall victory in Gimli he is now two for three on the season and the series points leader.

In the 85cc 7-11 class Mikkel Grabinski grabbed a
hard earned top five finish with a 4-7 day for fifth overall.

Brandon Millard picked up a moto win and second
overall in the 50cc 4-6 class.

First Year Intermediate Nathan Regier found his way to the podium taking third overall in the MX-2 Intermediate class behind Josh Pfrimmer and Ryan Klassen.

Mike Mooney was the cream of the crop in the ATV Pro class going 1-1 for the overall.

Having to ride a borrowed bike wasn’t enough to keep Brayden Foster from an impressive victory in the Youth B Main in the largest class of the day.

Transcanada Motorsports Josh Penner was the story in both the MX-1 and MX-2 Pro classes. Penner put in dominating performances in all four Pro motos. Penner was joined on the MX-1 podium by the Formula Suzuki duo of Adam Pfeiffer and Aaron Pfrimmer, while Pfrimmer and Formula Suzuki’s Earl Reimer rounded out the MX-2 podium.

Tanner Garnham was on the gas in Gimli going 3-3 for
third overall in the 65cc 10-11 class behind
Jordan Devloo and Dylan Williamson.

Madison McAlinden took home second place hardware
in the Little Ladies class with a pair of second place
moto finishes.

Ryan Linto (282) made a couple of podium appearances, taking third overall in both the stacked Supermini and 85cc 12-16 classes.

Ryley Paterson battled his way to second overall
in the 50cc 7-8 class.

Stacy Groening made his first appearance of the season
at Gimli. Groening picked up a moto win and second
overall in the 40+ B class to go with his sixth place
finish in Vet Junior.

First Year Intermediate Matt Anseeuw has been
impressive early in 2009. Anseeuw picked up fourth
overall in the Youth class at Northern Lites Raceway.

Brenden Mitchell may be the most aggressive rider
currently racing in the MMA. Mitchell put that
aggression to good use, taking home a pair of second
place finishes in the MX-2 and MX-3 Junior classes.

Andre Peters put in a 4-4 day for fourth overall in the
65cc 7-9 class behind the podium of Cole DeKoninck,
D.J. Burmey and Jaxton Unrau.

Brent Foote picked up a moto win and second overall in the MX-2 Beginner class.

Brittany Mann used 3-2 finishes in the Ladies class to
take the second spot on the box behind Jamie Burmey
and ahead of Bev Bryce-Leger.

Another impressive first year Intermediate is Branden Senchuk who just missed the MX-1 podium. Senchuk went 3-4 for fourth overall.
