Report and Photos by Doug and Troy Engstrom
With Melita’s Sandy Oaks Raceway hosting Round 2 of the Westside Honda Spring Provincial Championship series, racers and fans would quickly get to see who the sand specialists were as well as who actually trains to race.
| When you speak of sand specialists in Manitoba, the first name that comes to mind is Formula Suzuki’s Earl Reimer. Once again, fans were treated to a sand riding clinic as the 42-year-old put it to the young guns in the MX2 Pro class with a 2-1 day and the overall. Reimer also took home top spot in the Vet Master class. |
| David “The Ledarney Factor” Ledarney has returned to the gate in 2009. Ledarney took both Plus 25 motos and the overall ahead of Luke MacFadden and Corey Parent. |
| Matthew Stokes was a first time winner in the 50cc 4-6 class. Stokes 2-1 day topped the 1-2 ride of Noah Jacobson. |
| Regan Breemersch (96) was involved in some fierce battles all day long on his way to victories in the MX2 and MX3 Junior classes. |
| Harlan Wiens put in a 1-3 day for the overall in the MX2 Beginner class. Colten Korolewich (2-4) and Brent Foote (8-1) joined him on the podium. |
| Two was the number of the day for Brett Foster in the 85cc 7-11 class. Foster had 2-2 moto scores for second overall. |
| Kevin Bergson left Melita with a couple of moto wins, an overall in the Vet Junior class and second spot in the Plus 40 B class. |
| Second year Intermediate rider Ryan Klassen had a strong day in the sand. Klassen put in matching 2-4 rides in both the MX1 and MX2 Intermediate classes, taking second and third overall in the process. |
| Cole DeKoninck made his first appearance of the season in Melita. DeKoninck took both 65cc 7-9 moto’s on his way to the overall. |
| Jamie Burmey picked up the victory in the Ladies class with a 1-2 day. |
| Radek Unrau (71) grabbed a moto one holeshot and battled his older brother Jaxton (70) for several laps before taking a second in the first 50cc 7-8 moto. Another second in moto two left him with second overall on the day. |
| ATV’s returned to the schedule at Sandy Oaks. Cale Chapman (48) took the ATV Beginner class overall on this day. |
As Yogi Berra would say “It’s like déjà vu all over again." Every year at Sandy Oaks you can always count on a few things remaining the same. The first is you’ll find young Lane Louttit working his tail off helping his Mom, Dad and Grandfather prepare the property for race day. The second is on race day you can count on Louttit to show a whole group of mini riders the fast way around the track. Louttit won three of four motos, while collecting the Supermini and 85cc 12-16 class victories
| Michaela Hamm showed up to brave the sands of Melita and was rewarded with her first ever victory in the Little Ladies class. |
| Transcanada Motorsports Scott Harland used a 2-1 day to take the win over the 1-2 rides of Sun and Snow’s Danny Winistok in the 40+ class. |
| Kole Devisscher took the Youth B class by storm with a pair of moto wins. |
| First year Westside Honda Pro Chris Plett made a podium appearance in the Youth class with second spot for the day. |
| Ian Smith returned to the top of the box in the MX-1 Junior class with 1-1 moto scores. |
| Dylan Williamson looked strong on his way to a 2-2 day for second overall in the 65cc-10-11 class. |
Transcanada Motorsports Josh Penner used the second moto tie breaker with a 2-1 day to take the MX-1 Pro class ahead of the 1-2 rides of Formula Suzuki’s Aaron Pfrimmer . |
| Aodhan Climie made the 1500+ km round trip from Ear Falls Ontario worthwhile with a victory in the MX-1 Beginner class. |
