Manitoba MX Race Report-Moto Park X
Report and Photos by Doug and Troy Engstrom
Altona’s Moto Park X was the site of round four of the Westside Honda Spring Provincial Championship series. The promoters faced the challenge of preparing a facility in already soggy southern Manitoba; add an uncertain forecast and the potential for disaster loomed with overnight rain on Saturday. With much discussion and trepidation practice began and within a few laps it was evident the track was going to be perfect for racing!

Carson Wiebe was the beneficiary of some great work by the promoters to obtain generous sponsorship from Altona Farm Service with help from Oakley Canada. Wiebe’s victory in the second Youth B moto gave him a 3-1 day, the overall, and a new pair of Oakley Gascan sunglasses after the Youth B class was designated as one of two special prize classes prior to raceday

The other prize class was the Supermini class where the top three each took home some Oakley swag! Cole Dekoninck secured his share of the loot by taking the last spot on the box with 4-4 finishes behind Richmond Morin and Lane Louttit. Dekoninck also took home first place hardware in both the 65cc 7-9 class and the 85cc 7-11 class, sweeping all four motos in the process.

Ezra Ginter made his first appearance of 2009 a winning one. Ginter took both motos and the overall in the 50cc 4-6 class ahead of Kasen Andrushko and Jayden Bartel.

Carmen Regier went 2-2 for second overall in the Ladies class behind Jamie Burmey and ahead of Lauren Gilmore.

Garrett Graboweski put in his fourth consecutive top five finish in the MX-2 Intermediate class. Graboweski’s 4-5 finishes put him fourth behind the podium of Josh Pfrimmer, Ryan Klassen, and Branden Senchuk.

Home track advantage seemed to be in play for Renold Sawatsky at Moto Park X. Sawatsky who can see the track from his back door looked especially fast on his way to third overall in the Vet Master class and second spot on the box in the 40+ class.

Coard Allard took third overall in the very competitive MX-2 Junior class. Allard’s 3-2 day left him behind the 2-1 rides of Rio Stoesz and the 1-4 finishes of Brayden Foster.

So you’ve just moved up from 85’s and you blow up your 125, what do you do? Well if you’re Joshua Penner you borrow your Dad’s 250 smoker and in your second attempt at the MX-1 Beginner class you go 1-1 and take the overall. Good luck getting your bike back Mel.

With Josh Penner suffering what is likely a season ending knee injury last week, Formula Suzuki’s Aaron Pfrimmer just became a heavy favorite each time the Pro classes head to the line in Manitoba. Pfrimmer lead a Formula Suzuki sweep of the MX-2 Pro podium, winning both motos. Formula’s Earl Reimer (2-2) and Tim Lavoie (3-4) followed Pfrimmer to the box. In MX-1 action Pfrimmer’s 1-3 rides were good for the overall ahead of the 4-1 finishes of Westside Honda’s Eddie Anderson and the 2-4 scores of Formula Suzuki’s Adam Pfeiffer. |

Jordan Gledhill won the first moto on his way to second overall in the 65cc 10-11 class.

Adam Wiebe took third spot in the 50cc 7-8 class.

Westside Honda’s Devon Ward volunteered to be the lone test pilot prior to practice to assess track conditions after concerns were voiced over the amount of moisture the track had seen Saturday night. Ward put his extra practice lap to good use picking up third place money in the Youth class.

Brayden Blaine picked up a moto win and second overall in the 85cc 12-16 class.

Randall Klassen took the Vet Junior overall after 1-2 moto scores.

The MX-3 Junior class was wide open with dnf’s, crashes and general inconsistent results. Justin Gevoga capitalized, taking the overall with 2-5 finishes.

Kirk Green got the last spot on the podium in the MX-1 Junior class behind class leaders Stefan Rohm and Ian Smith.

Everett Peters made a podium appearance in the first MX-1 Intermediate moto with a third place finish. Peters ended the day top five with fifth overall. Peters also risked wearing his “afternoon” gear in the first moto for a second week in a row, because I don’t shoot photos in the afternoon. This even after the superstition gremlins left him with a dead CDI last week in his first attempt to put the afternoon gear into morning action.
