Canada heads to Texas and Bermuda
Thanks to Schrader’s Motors in Yorkton, SK for supporting women's motorcycle racing on DMX. Out of the Blue is presented by Schrader's, a Yamaha Five Star Dealer, serving you for all your ATV, motorcycle and snowmobile needs. Schrader’s is also a proud sponsor of Canadian Women’s National #3, Denaye Giroux
. If you’re in the area, stop by Schrader’s Motors and buy some parts or accessories off of Denaye or, of course, any of the other staff. DMX is looking forward to continuing the partnership with Schrader's in 2010.
Hey all, I totally meant to have this column on line before Christmas, but my cousins from Vancouver are staying with me for two weeks and they gave me an early Christmas present: hockey skates. I live in a town of about 100 people and we have the best outdoor ice rink in all of Eastern Ontario. I'm serious. Does your outdoor rink have a Zamboni, spotlights, two warming huts, a hockey store, and a digital scoreboard? I've spent most of my Christmas week at the rink learning how to skate without a toepick and with a hockey stick and not in front of a computer.
It’s currently freezing rain here in Eastern Ontario. Yuck. I doubt the rink is any good today so I'm in front of the computer. The propane fireplace is cranked and I'm thinking about Denaye and Ami who are traveling to warmer climates for some moto racing.
Denaye heads to Texas
Schrader’s Motors’ Denaye Giroux will be racing in the 2010 WMA Women’s World Cup at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, TX. However, it’s not a guarantee that Denaye will be racing in warmer weather. The WMA Cup at Cycle Ranch in Texas in 2007 had temperatures as low as 3 degrees Celsius and snow was reported 2 hours south in Corpus Christi. I hope Denaye gets great racing weather for her first shot racing the Pro class in this competition which attracts top riders from around the globe.
Of course, I just check the Wortham weather forecast for Dec. 31 and sorry Denaye; it’s telling me “few snow showers” and a high of 7 degrees Celsius. Let’s hope that the forecast warms up for you!
She leaves today with her dad. Denaye: “I am both nervous and excited about racing in the pro class. I know the competition is going to be tough, but I believe racing with the girls down there will give me more incentive to become faster.”
Other than packing her trailer for Texas, Denaye’s been working lots and saving money for next summer. She did have a chance to ride her new Schrader’s 2010 YZ250F before it snowed in Saskatchewan. This is what she had to say: “This bike is amazing; I feel faster already! My training with Todd has already started for the 2010 season, and I feel more motivated now than I ever have to do well in the series.”

She’s super stoked, along with everyone else, that the women’s series will remain on Sundays, alongside the MX1 and MX2 classes. If you haven’t already heard, the 2010 series will have the ladies’ division split into an East/West competition with a shootout at the Walton Trans Can in August.
Denaye will also be heading to California in March to train with Perform X to get ready for the 2010 women’s nationals.

Bermuda-bound
Bermuda’s temperature is currently more comfortable for racing. It’s averaging 17 degrees Celsius. And Bermuda is where Manitoba’s Ami Houde
will be for two weeks over Christmas. Ami and Whitney Locken
and Dylan Kailen have been invited to race in Bermuda for two weeks.
DMX will keep you posted on Ami and Denaye’s racing adventures!
Rock Racing
I was stoked to hear from my Newfoundland friend Gaelle Halliday
last week. She’s one of a handful of female racers on Canada’s Rock. She participated in the first ever Motocross Newfoundland and Labrador ladies class in 2007. Unfortunately that class only lasted one season due to a lack of participation. She told me that an “incredible fall” kept her off the bike in 2009, but she’s already pumped for loads of riding in 2010. And she’s looking to head off the island “to race and play!” Fingers crossed that she makes out my way as she HAS to ride Sand del Lee, as does every rider. Hope to see you in 2010 Gaelle!

RIP Keily
I was saddened when I found out that one of my favourite moto-mascots passed away a couple weeks ago. Keily, Team Label It’s mascot, was 17-years-old. She’ll definitely be missed.
