Canada's #2 to sit out Nationals
Check out www.schradermotors.com. Schrader’s Motors is a big supporter of women’s motocross; in return show your support of Schrader’s. You should also become a fan of Schrader’s – click here: http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/Schraders/94509564581?ref=ts
Schrader's is supporting Denaye Giroux
and Shawn Maffenbeier
for 2010.
Canada’s #2, Jocelyn Killough
, has decided to not race the nationals this year and focus on school instead. The Aylmer, ON native has plans to work full-time this summer. I can’t see Jocelyn not riding at all and I hope to see her race some regionals. Jocelyn and her finance, Colton Facciotti
, will be building a house in southern Ontario in the near future.

Denaye Giroux won't be chasing down Jocelyn in 2010 |

Despite a rough second half of the season, Jocelyn finished the 2009 season in second. |
Amber Giroux
started her gym training program with personal trainer, Lacy Stock
, who recently formed Elemental Fitness. Amber loves that every program Lacy creates is different. “We do fun stuff and it keeps me motivated.” She heads to California on Feb. 25 to meet up with Lacy.
Lacy raced only a couple national rounds last year including Sand del Lee, finishing 28th overall. I check in with Lacy, who's currently training in California, impatiently waiting for Amber to arrive.
Getting to know… Lacy Stock
DMX: Where do you call home?
Lacy: I'm originally from Medicine Hat, Alberta and I recently just moved back there to be home for good.
How did you become involved in the dirt bike scene?
I've been involved in the dirt bike scene since I've been born. I have pictures of me as a baby with my dad holding me on a kx500 or something like that! I grew up riding dirtbikes in the mountains as my dad is a national cross country champion. I started riding bikes when I was four years old and have been riding ever since.
I took a few years off from the scene while aquiring my university degree but hoped back on when my brother decided racing motocross would be more fun than racing cross country. My whole family races. My brother Jared, is pro in Canada #75 after doing the national circuit last year as an amateur. My other brother races Junior and of course my mom is the backbone of the entire family. My dad raced all his life up to a few years ago when he injured his foot and hasn't had a bike since (we stole them all!) He now makes sure my brothers bikes are in tip top shape at the races, doubling as our support and our mechanic. I raced a couple Womens Pro Nationals last year after coming back from California with a broken thumb and surgery.
Tell me about Elemental Fitness.
Elemental Fitness is a new thing for me. I graduated in 2008 on the Dean's List from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Health Physiology. I fell in love with fitness and training and have been trying to get in the training scene ever since. I had a great opportunity to work with Drew Robertson from Evolved MX for awhile while I resided in Calgary where he taught me a lot of knowlege about training. I fell in love with training athletes and have been training athletes from all spectrums since, although my passion is training in the industry as I know what it takes to race mx.
I have been focusing on riding and training myself the past little while so the business is slowing evolving. I actually just picked out my company title not so long ago. My clientele list is short but it's a hard industry to get started in! I trained Jeff Northrop
, my brother Jared Stock
, myself, and newly added Amber Giroux. My focus for the business is to train racers in the industry, and ultimately I would love to be the go to girl for women and girls in the industry. It's hard for me to train one-on-one as I live in a small town but right now distance training is popular in the sport and my programs are individualized and amazing. And when I say amazing I mean tough but man they get you ready to race! Just ask Amber and my brother.

You're currently in California... what's happening there?
We got to Cali about two weeks ago. My brothers and I are down here for two months to train on and off the bike for the upcoming Canadian Nationals. We basically ride and go to the gym five days of the week and take weekends off. I'm patiently waiting for Amber to get here so I can have a girl to ride with!
The weather hasn't been the greatest. It's been raining a lot so the tracks are super muddy and rutty so I'm gettin some good rut practice. I will be doing the western rounds of the Canadian Nationals as well as Walton. I was pretty upset that they made the east/west series... I loved the East tracks! Other than that I'm just hoping to come back strong and healthy from California and see where that takes me in 2010.

#1 Heidi Cooke
is stoked to be on the same team as her brother, Mitch, this year. Heidi and Mitch will be riding Suzukis for Andre Laurin
. Heidi will be taking a trip to Florida this winter and claims that she won’t be there for training, but I’m sure Heidi will get in as much motocross as she can while away from snow-filled Nova Scotia.
I asked Heidi if she has plans to race any WMA rounds in the States this year. She doubts that she’ll do any pre-CMRC season, because the locations are so far and will require lots of driving. The café owner will probably do the last two WMA races.

I am going to California at the end of this month to train with Todd again, there should be a good group of us down there, and I am really looking forward to it. We have lots of traveling planned for the upcoming season. I plan on going to a couple WMA rounds this year: Hangtown, and Glen Helen before the Canadian Natioanls start, then do the three western Womens Canadian rounds, and then head to the WMA Milville National, of course we will be at Walton, and then depending on how well I do at the WMA rounds we might make it down to Southwick. This year I want to do as much as I can, and I beleive that doing the WMA rounds will really bring up my level of riding.
I am also really happy to say that I have some new sponsors for the 2010 season, Troy Lee Designs, Gaerne Boots, and Lime Nine Graphics, and a big thanks to everyone else who helps me out: Schrader's, Perform X, Oakley, Pirelli, Yorkton Distributors, Superior Suspension Settings, Yorkton Dodge, The Kinsmen club of Yorkton, Roost Clothing, and of course my dad!
SEE YOU AT THE RACES! and don't forget to check out my website www.denayegiroux.com :)
Jessica, the Artist...
Remember Jessica Foster
? (I write that as it feels that she’s been so far removed from motocross racing). Who knew that she was such a talented artist? I asked Jess, who’s a elementary school teacher in BC, to send me photos of some of her art so I can share her non-moto talent with all of you. Enjoy:

I was very surprised to read
I was very surprised to read that Jocelyn was not riding the nationals this season. With how good she rode last year and training with PerformX this season I thought she was a guaranteed a top spot again in 2010. Possibly some of the cutbacks in available support had something to do with this.
Eitherway it's good she has a balance in her life that involves a relationship and work/education in addition to a dedication to a sport. Best of luck to her but hopefully we will still see her competing sometime this season.
