Denaye takes over in Edmonton
was not ready to settle for second place. She stepped up her game and charged hard in round 2 of the Women’s Nationals in Edmonton for the overall win. She had near perfect starts in both motos and kept a good pace out front. In the second moto, Kamloops winner Shelby Turner
put the pressure on Denaye who had to make no mistakes to maintain her lead.![]() |

and Shelby close behind. Missy Hackett
had another out of the blue performance, coming out of silence over the past couple of years, and confidently shooting out from that Edmonton gate. Missy passed Shelby for third early in the race while Denaye’s lead lengthened. Karly was coasting in second and Amber Giroux
had made ground, getting in front of Shelby. I’m not surprised that Amber, who finished 5-6 for fifth overall in Kamloops, took second in Edmonton. Amber will not settle for fifth, especially when she has the same speed as the girls ahead of her. That girl has drive and proved herself in Edmonton.![]() |

Amber is hoping to be battling up front with her sister, Denaye, in Calgary this weekend. Lissimore photo |
Amber Giroux rode much better at Edmonton, because of the hard packed track and her relaxed attitude. She finished third overall with 3-3 motos.

Shelby crashed three times; twice in the same corner in the first moto. But pulled it together in moto 2 to record the fastest lap time. Lissimore photo |

had a rough ride on amateur day in Edmonton and when I asked her about what happened, she replied that she doesn’t remember much. That can’t be good. Lacy: “I crashed at the end of the roller section and must have grabbed too much front brake and endo’d. My bike landed on me. I guess my brother was standing right there and jumped the fence to help me up. He straightened my front end, fixed my helmet and I guess I told him I was fine and rode to the finish line where my dad flagged me down and told me I was done.
Jessica Foster
will be at the line in Calgary this weekend wearing #391 on a YZ250F.
I've also learned that Taylor Miller
is racing the EASTERN leg of the nationals and not the west as I previously stated. Sorry about the confusion.

(If you are trying to find the women's results on cmrcracing.com. Go to Regional Results, select 2010, British Columbia and then select either Whispering Pines (Kamloops) or Castrol Raceway (Edmonton) and then series or individual. Don't ask me why it's listed that way. Took us a while to find the results).
Two-time AMA Women's Motocross Champion and X-Games Gold Medalist, Ashley Fiolek
has been nominated for a 2010 Teen Choice Award in the Best Female Action Sports Athlete category.
The awards show airs on FOX August 9 at 8:00 p.m. / 7:00 p.m. Central. Fiolek is up against tough competition for the award including snowboarders Torah Bright and Hannah Teter, freestyle skier Sarah Burke and surfer Maya Gabeira, so fans of Ashley need to vote as many times as they can.
