2011 CMRC Monster Energy - Ladies Western National Preview
By Angie Parker
It’s back!! This weekend marks the opening race of the 2011 CMRC Women’s National Championships. The series will continue to run an East/West format and there will be three rounds for the east and three rounds for the west. These runs will run on Sundays in conjunction with the CMRC Nationals. Similar to 2010, separate Eastern and Western Canadian Women’s National Championships will be awarded.
The Schedule:
Western Nationals
June 5 Whispering Pines Raceway, Kamloops, British Columbia
June 12 Wastelands, Nanaimo, British Columbia
June 19 Wild Rose MX Park, Calgary, Alberta
Eastern Nationals
July 16/17 Gopher Dunes
, Courtland, Ontario
July 23/24 Circuit de Ste-Julie, Ste-Julie, Quebec
August 6/7 Sand Del Lee, Richmond, Ontario
The West
2010 West Champion
2010 Out of the Blue / Parts Canada / Anti-Gravity Top Rider - West
KTM 150SX
With last year’s western title holder, Shelby Turner, not racing this summer due to a serious injury, there will be a new West Champ this year. Shelby had signed with Royal Distributing Thor Dragon Fuels KTM Canada
after her stellar 2010 year. Shelby is a cross-over artist and not only succeeded in motocross, she also took home the #1 plate for the CEC Ladies Canadian Off-Road championship in 2010. The injury is a definite disappointment for the 15 year-old but here's hoping she'll be healed up and ready to go soon.

Rachel Springman will once again contest the Western national rounds aboard a Kawasaki and will take in all local races on Vancouver Island. Rachel spent the off-season attending classes for criminology and training when she could. This year the British Columbian is sponsored by Holeshot Racing, Springman’s Saab, Rekluse, RMR Suspensions, Dan Tosh Racing and Ride Engineering. Rachel will most likely run in the top five if she’s hot off the gate.
KX250F
Once again riding a Spunky’s KX250F, Camille, a vet of the nationals, will take in Kamloops, Nanaimo and Calgary. The Vancouver Island resident was unable to ride all winter due to an injury, but she claims that she is all healed up and was back on the bike in April. For 2011, Camille is supported by Spunky's Motorcycle Shop and Kawasaki. Without a doubt, Camille will be in the top five, providing that she stays upright and keeps the bike running. Expect some good battles between her and Rachel Springman.
#8 Denaye Giroux
YZ250F
Denaye Giroux is undoubtedly one of Western Canada’s top riders. Unfortunately she was injured in July 2010 which affected her overall results. After recovering she went to California in March to prepare herself for the national season. According to Deanye, it took her a while to get comfortable on the bike again, but she’s feeling good!
The full-time Schrader’s employee will contest the western nationals as well as Walton Trans Can, and Saskatchewan provincials. Denaye will also race WMA rounds in Colorado and Minnesota, wearing #38.
Denaye is sponsored by Schrader's Yamalube, Yamaha Canada, SSS Suspension, Troy Lee Designs, Gaerne, Oakley, ORB Clothing, Yorkton Dodge, Supertrac's, Limenine, Husky, Outdoor Sporting and Construction, and her dad. With no pressure from Shelby Turner this year, Denaye could be alone upfront.

#10 Sam Puky
YZ 125
Sam spent the winter in school and working, but is all ready to tackle the western nationals as well as the SOAB series. For 2011, she has support from LRX, Blackfoot, Sosa and FXR.
Amy Aspell
KX 250F
A major accident last spring had Amy off the bike for quite some time. But now, her broken back is healed and she’s ready to race the western rounds aboard her Sprunky’s Kawi.
Bailee Pozdnekoff
will be racing the three west rounds while her older sister, Karly Pozdnekoff
will take on the east this year.
Calgary
Jessica Foster
(#391) and Courtney Stelter
will be lined up for the Calgary round only. Courtney will be focusing on the Alberta provincials. Jessica is back on a Honda, riding for Rocky Mountain Honda in Calgary.
Alberta’s Amber Giroux will not be racing the 2011 Western Nationals due to an unfortunate suspension last year which banned her from racing CMRC motocross in 2011. If you are a fan of Amber’s gutsy riding, like I am, and want to see her succeed, you’re in luck! She will take on the CEC Enduro Championship this summer and race for KTM’s “B” team in the west.

Off-Road Incentive
There’s still time to take advantage of this opportunity for women in the off-road community. With hopes to increase the participation of non-European riders in the Enduro World Championship rounds held in Europe, the FIM has created an incentive to help women riders called the FIM Enduro Solidarity Fund.
For 2011, the Solidarity Fund will provide a non-European rider who participates in one or more events, free accommodation from Wednesday through Monday. Women will also receive 500 Euros per event (amounts may be adjusted upwards or downwards depending on the number of participants overall).
The payment of the support funds will be made at the end of the Championship. Riders interested in receiving this help will have to register at least one month before the concerned event or for the whole championship.
There is one round remaining in the FIM Women World Cup Schedule. This race is Oct. 1-2 in Mende, France. Please contact the CMA office at 905-522-5705 if you are interested. www.canmocycle.ca.
Race Report: Eve Brodeur
Eve Brodeur is the future of women’s motocross in Canada. I love receiving her race updates, and due to the lack of Out of the Blue columns this past winter, I apologize for the out-of-date report. However I do feel that Eve’s accomplishments are worth mentioning. Here is a report from her dad:
After a week and a half training down in Florida during the [Christmas] holidays, we attended the first round of the Florida Winter series at Gatorback on January1 where Eve had the chance to participate in the Girls 9-11 class, a class we don’t have here in Canada.. She went 1-1 for the overall win in a battle that was considered one of the best all weekend as per Billy from MXranking. Eve and the runner up went wheel-to-wheel and bar-to bar for the all moto.
After three weeks off from training we hit X-town many times in February for some indoor training. Then it was time for preparation for a Loretta Lynn’s qualifier at RacewayPark in Englishtown N.J.

Eve is on the gas this year! |
Eve was competing in three classes, Girls 9-11 and both the boys 85cc 9-11 Stock and Mod where she qualified in all three for the regional Broome Tioga on June 10-12. She went 1-1 in the girls’ class, but the surprise of the weekend was that she also qualified with the boys which will give her plenty of track time at the regional.
We also competed at the Area51 Loretta qualifying on April 9-10 and it was a great weekend also, with Eve going 1-1 again in the Girls 9-11 class. Runner-up was another Canadian girl, Leah Ricard from Ontario with a strong second. Eve also got another an eighth overall in the Boys 85cc 9-11 mod.
Eve would like to thank Duroy Racing, Motovan, OCS suspension for their support.
Good luck to Eve who will race Broome Tioga on June 10-12!
