Gimli's Northern Lights Raceway held home to round seven of the Transcanada Motorsports / Capitol Motosports fall series. After a few days of rain hit southern Manitoba, the weather turned around for Saturday for some great races.
The track area was buzzing with activity this weekend. Along with the motocross races, gliders and parachuters filled the overhead sky and the next door drag strip/race circuit was in action all day.
Rylin Katazinski had a great raceday. Katazinski put in two strong motos and kept the 50cc 7-8 class front runner Ethan Scott honest in both motos.
Kayl Brown (277) made a return back to the MMA scene. Brown took two moto wins and an overall in MX-1 Junior as well as fifth overall in MX-2 Junior.
MX-2 Junior points leaders Tylor Plett (100) and Mark Sexton (34) were battling hard in moto one. Plett was hounding the back tire of leader Sexton for the first few laps until pulling the trigger and ran up the inside of a big bowl turn, running the #34 high and eventually led him to hit the ground. Plett would go on to win the moto as well as the second moto while Sexton's 5-2 gave him second overall. Plett now leads Sexton by 3 points going into the final round.
Following the MMA's new 'no whoops' rules, the gnarly Gimli whoops were traded in favor for a set of two triples.
Jaret Enns didn't have the best of luck today. Enns swapped out upon landing a double and was ejected from this RMZ, hitting the ground hard. Later on, Enns would twist up his ankle ending his race day early.
The biggest battle in MX-2 Intermediate is that between Braden Jonsson (337) and Coard Allard (992) for second in points. Allard lead Jonsson by seven points coming into round seven and the two left Gimli with the same difference.
Struggling with crashes during a few motos this season, Aaron Pfrimmer posted up on the third spot of the podium in MX-1 Pro.
Cory Heide borrowed a 450 for the weekend and went 5-2 for third overall behind Kayl Brown and Justin Fillion.
Travis Klassen was on the gas this weekend earning the last spot on the 85cc 12-16 podium after Josh Bell and Kent Navitka respectively.
