Montreal Supercross Photo Report
Always a highlight on the Canadian motocross calendar, the 2010 edition of the long running Montreal Supercross took place this past weekend and as always it was a good time for everyone who made it out to Olympic Stadium to catch the action. With Canada's best riders and a solid contingent of American contenders, the stage was set for an epic battle and it didn't dissapoint with a 4-way battle for the lead in the MX1 final. Throw in the emergence of a local hero in the MX2 class and this race is definitely one that will be talked about for a long time to come.
Here's a few shots from the night at Montreal....
As always, click on any of the images to view as a slideshow.
Eventual winner, Nick Wey(L) talks shop between practice sessions with Daniel Blair and Chris Blose(who came all the way to Montreal to race but someone forgot to bring him a bike!)
It's been a tough year for our Canadian Champ, Colton Facciotti. In his first race back from his summer injuries, Colt went down in practice and banged his head and cut his nose. It was enough to make him decide to sit out for the night.
Returning again after last year's successful debut, the Direct Motocross.com webcast was back again for 2010 with our own Steve Matthes calling the shots along with Todd Kuli.
Bobby Kiniry grabbed the holeshot in his heat race. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there as he crashed in both his heat and the main event, leaving him with only a 12th place and a cut up back to show for his night.
Simon Homans was back in action this weekend and he raced both classes. His best finish was 7th in the MX2 main.
Freestyle is always a big part of the Montreal program. Beau Bamburg came this year and threw some huge whips.
The Montreal promoters also brought in American freestyler to perform his patented double backflip....
After getting to race as a member of Team Canada last weekend at the Des Nations, Kaven Benoit carried his momentum into Montreal with a dominant win in the MX2 main.
After setting the fastest time in all the practice sessions, Tyler Medaglia had to work his way up after a bad start to grab 2nd by the finish.
Husqvarna brought in Polish rider, Oblucki Bartosz to race the Endurocross and he finished third in the final.
It was all Suzuki's out front for the start of the MX1 main event, with Jason Thomas(62), Dave Ginolfi(8), Freddy Karrle(552) leading the pack.
Last year's winner, Jason Thomas worked his way into the lead before dropping back to 4th by the finish.
Matt Goerke was strong in the qualifiers, winning his heat race but unfortunately a fall early in the main relegated him to 14th in the main.
There was great racing for the lead in the main event, with Teddy Maier(11), Jason Thomas, Nick Wey and Josh Demuth(not shown) all fighting to take the win.
Demuth looked to have the race won before falling twice on the last lap. What a heartbreak for the Monster Energy Cernic's Kawasaki pilot.
