Here we are, back again for another season of motocross in Manitoba. After the first race of the season was cancelled due to cold weather and rain, one week later round one of the FXR Racing / Headingley Sport Shop Spring Series was set to run at Northern Lites Raceway in Gimli, Manitoba. With a membership of racers ready to race, a great day of motocross racing was in the cards.
Lindsay Masse started his 2011 season out swinging. Masse's 2-2 in MX-1 Pro gave him the overall on the day over the 5-1 scores of Brady Bremeersch and 1-5 motos of Josh Penner.
Joel Kostuik took the MX-3 Junior class by storm taking both motos and the overall over Nathan Harder and Brent Foote.
Arguably the fastest old guy on the track, Kim Houde's pair of firsts in Vet Master earned him the overall.
One of the few 85cc riders clearing the infield triple, Cole Dekoninck won both Supermini races for the overall.
That's Matt Klassen taking the long push back to the truck after some issues during one of his 85cc motos.
After a stay in Costa Rica over the winter, Aaron Pfrimmer returned to his winning ways in the MX-2 Pro division taking both motos over first year pros Coard Allard and Marcus Giesbrecht respectively.
After trading in his Honda for a new KTM, Carson Wiebe used consistant 3-2 motos in MX-2 Intermediate for the overall. Mark Sexton and James Freudenberg followed Wiebe on the podium
Blasting off to a good start in MX-1 Junior; Scott Giesbrecht (138) was another rider taking both motos and an overall on the day.
Leg up and foot peg dragging, Richard Giesbrecht took top honours in MX-2 Junior with 2-1 moto scores. Richmond Morin swapped scores with Giesbrecht taking second. Cole Jacobson took third overall on the day.
Nathan Williamson was on a tear in Gimli claiming both motos and a first place trophy in 65cc 10-11.
Swapping his KTM 150SX in favour of a new RM-Z 250 obviously agreed with Richmond Morin. Morin took a Youth B moto sweep as well as second overall in MX-2 Junior.
Travis Klassen stepped up his game for 2011. The 85cc rider handily earned the overall in 85cc 12-16 with a pair of moto wins.
Michael Giesbrecht took his Brotherhood Motorsports Kawasaki to the top step of the MX-1 podium where his 4-1 motos gave him first overall. Tylor Plett and Branden Senchuck chased Giesbrecht to the podium.
Isaac Gorden takes a 50cc 4-6 holeshot en route to an overall victory and first place trophy in Gimli.
Josh Penner was one to watch this weekend. Penner turned a lot of heads when he turned the four jump series of the Gimli "Supercross" section into a pair of triples. Penner took both Plus 25 motos and went 1-5 for third overall in MX-1 Pro.
Although battling a case of food poisoning, Ami Houde still managed to win both of the Ladies motos and the overall in Gimli.
Kasen Andrushko airs out the finish line table on his way to two first place finishes in the 50cc 7-8 division. Sam Wilman and Brandon Millard raced to the podium respectively behind Kasen.
Retired Moto Medic Bert "Moto" van Huizen gives first year Intermediate James Freudenberg some congratulatory words after Freudenberg won his first ever MX-2 Intermediate moto.
Tim Lavoie had the spectators in stitches during the last Pro moto of the day with some of his goon riding.
Last years most dominant 50cc rider stepped up to a Cobra 65cc for 2011. The new bike seemed to be a good fit for Ethan Scott as he grabbed the overall in 65cc 7-9 action.
