Rounds 3 and 4 of the KTM Canadian Arenacross Championships are now in the books. A handfull of riders came up from Washingron State and tried to take all the money. The crowds came out and supported the event and the racing action was intense. Huge thanks to Cycle North in Prince George, BC for getting DMX out here to cover these events. Here's a look at what happened in Chilliwack, BC.
They say the big #1 is like having target on your back. Spectra Powersports Yamaha rider, Brock Hoyer, is in tough to repeat as champion.
Young RTR KTM rider, Dylan Delaplace, is up in the pro ranks and has yet to find his form in Chilliwack. He hit the dirt a few times and went 8-8-9-DNQ (I'll type it as Lites/Open/Lites/Open) He's fast and will have his breakout ride soon.
#54 Josh Allen's best rides were a 4th in Saturday's Lites main and finishing 2nd to Image Tech Airway MX Park rider, Brad Nauditt, in Friday's Dash for Cash.
The track was tight and everyone was basically doing the same thing, so riders had to 'get creative' to try and make passes all weekend. Hoyer demonstrates how tough it was to grab an inside line.
It was bad news early for Hully Gully Loudmouth Yamaha rider, Dylan Kaelin. He crashed early on Friday and when riders ran over his bike that was on his leg, it took him out for the weekend. It's off to work for him this week.
It was great to see Kevin Lepp back at the races. He's working his way back up to speed after not being on a bike since Edmonton this year. Oh, he also recently got engaged to a lovely lady. Congratulations, guys.
There is amateur racing throughout the program and several future stars were in attendance including young #70 Jullien Benek from Maple Ridge, BC.
I was especially impressed with #81 Jordan Piccolo who battled with speedster Tyler Gibbs in the Supermini class on his 65.
#39 Leading Edge Kawasaki prospect, Jesse Pettis, has moved to a 250F and looked great on it all weekend as he dominated the Intermediate classes.
#46 Gibbs was rocking the ready-for-Christmas junior version of the Atlas neck brace. Pretty slick unit.
Washington's Ryan Abrigo came up to race and although he was close at times he just couldn't quite get to the top of the podium in any main. He went 3-DQ-3-3. The DQ was for an incident with Coleton McLean.
I'll tell you, it's very difficult to beat Brad Nauditt when he consistently got starts like these. He almost/sort of grabbed every holeshot.
#2 Cycle North Kawasaki rider, Ryan Lockhart, knows what it takes to win one of these titles and he wasn't happy with his 8-8-6-6 weekend. Watch for him to improve as we head into next weekend.
I was impressed with the riding of #33 Redemption Racing rider, Eric Jeffery, this weekend. He had the pace of the leaders and should have won $500.00 in Saturday's Dash for Cash. More on that later...
Kourtney Lloyd from Cycle North is a huge supporter of both amateur and professional motocross in the west. Her Prince George, BC shop sponsors no less than 35 riders!
These girls made some of my podcasts very difficult this past weekend. Let's try to stay professional next weekend, ladies! (Do I need to throw in an 'LOL' here or do you understand I'm just joking?)
GA Checkpoint Yamaha rider, Spencer Knowles, was usually to be found on the rear wheel of Nauditt. He fell a couple times in Saturday's Lites main, but still holds on to the points lead. He went 2-2-10-2.
Grabbing a little more throttle heading into a corner after landing a jump makes a huge difference indoors. Eric Jeffery demonstrates.
One by one, riders took turns trying to catch and pass Brad Nauditt, but none was able. Here, Abrigo tries an outside line heading into the long spectator section.
#476 is Washington State rider, Collin Jurin. He was always just outside the top riders and finished 6-4-7-7. He has a ride for the AMA Westcoast SX series in January.
'Spenny' showing Nauditt a wheel as the head into the straight before the finish. At the end of it, Spencer touched Brad's wheel and got thrown into the fence. He was fine but it caused Knowles his worst finish as he would fall again.
I'm always impressed with the generosity of the crowds for the Dash for Cash races. Well, maybe not THAT surprised with these ladies asking for $$$.
On Friday, Nauditt was up against Josh Allen in the final. After this fall, Nauditt took the $506.00 easily.
Saturday's main came down to Jeffery and #4 Brayden Stuart. Stuart decided to take an early left after this pic and cut the track. The only rule in these is to get to the checkers first, but I think you have to ride on the track to do it.
Do the right thing, Brayden, split the $500.00 with Eric. Either way, these races a ton of fun to watch!
There were decent crowds on Friday, but Saturday saw the place full to the rafters. It was great to see.
Redemption Racing's Josh Snider hit the track again this weekend after being off the bike for over a year. He was basically the only one riding a big 450 and my ears can confirm that! He didn't make any mains this weekend, but, as usual, was all smiles.
