Steve Matthes

Steve Matthes is a Winnipeg, Manitoba born and bred boy who dreamed of making it big as a pro rider like his hero Ross Pederson. Realizing that he was too slow, he decided his only hope was being a mechanic for someone who was actually fast. Steve struggled as a mechanic with privateer teams—and even worked for a short time in Europe. In 1999, he met Tim Ferry and they made sweet music together on the track and became good buddies. Thanks to Ferry doing well, Matthes got factory jobs at KTM and Yamaha (with Ferry), but when Ferry lost his factory ride he hung up his wrenches.

Now Steve goes to the races and writes about what he sees and, amazingly enough, gets paid for it.  You can find more  of Steve's writing in Racer X magazine, Dirt Bike Rider magazing,Motocross magazine in Italy and on RacerXonline.com and Motocross.com.  Steve lives in Las Vegas with his wife Angie and has four Basset Hounds.
