When the US Open went away a couple years ago, their ceased to be a domestic off-season race - a race to serve as season wrap up for some, a place to test out a new ride for others, and for some a place to show their skills off in the hopes of catching the eye of a prospective Team Manager in hopes of a ride for the next season.
This year, Feld brought back the Vegas based race in a big way - moving it from the small MGM Grand Arena out to Sam Boyd Stadium, making it a hybrid with Supercross and outdoor sections, changing the format to three 10 lap main events and throwing a huge cash purse - $250,000 at it. If that wasn't enough, they put a cool million dollars on the line for anyone who could win all three main events.
Some parts of their ambitious plan worked out great, others not so well but there's no doubt that everyone applauded their efforts to mix things up and next year should be even better yet. Here's what happened...
