Monday Morning Coffee Opinion Column by Bigwave about Motocross and other interesting topics

Grad yourself another cup for this week’s Monday Morning Coffee about some of what happened in Motocross and usually a whole lot more…

By Billy Rainford

Hello from sunny and beautiful Naxos, Greece. We’re having a great time and enjoying a little calm before the 2026 Canadian Makita Triple Crown Series MX Nationals storm. We’ve climbed the highest mountain in the Cyclades (Greek Islands) and driven around just about every inch of road there is. We’ve seen things with dates that end with “BC” and navigated the most ridiculous roads I’ve ever been on. We have 2 more days here and then it’s Santorini and then Milos. I highly recommend a visit over here if you get the chance.

I did my best to find information from the Riveiere-du-Loup Arenacross which was held on Saturday in Quebec, but, even as the oldest AX in North America, they’re still opting out of using transponders and live timing. 🤷‍♂️

Fortunately, I had Luc Myre sending me some information along the way.

Here’s a look at the unofficial results in the Pro Main:

1. Charles Lefrançois FRA
2. Josh Cartwright USA
3. Logan Leitzel USA
4. Joan Cros ESP
5. Gage Stein USA
6. Kyle Dillin USA
7. Guillaume St Cyr CAN
8. Ayrton Pomeroy CAN

Luc Myre from BBL Plumbing grabbed a few guys for interviews at the end of the night. Some were messed up, so I’m waiting for the corrected videos. Here are a couple from Joan Cros who made his first visit to RDL from Spain and Ayrton Pomeroy who was 3rd in the 250 Main and then 8th in the Pro Main:

And here’s another from #519 Josh Cartwright who placed 2nd again:

I even saw that JC Bujold was on the track racing! I haven’t seen him in a few years now, so it was great to see him having some fun and mixing it up out there. I think our last interview with him was back in 2020.

5-time Canadian Champion #9 Dylan Wright was in action out in Alberta for the final 2 rounds of the Spring Super Series at Wild Rose MX Park in Calgary, Alberta this past weekend. He and his 250 teammate #24 Dylan Rempel were out from Quebec and Ontario to get some track time at the facility that will host Round 1 on June 7th, joining several other top Pro riders from the west.

On the Women’s side, it’s interesting to see #17 Destiny Slingerland go 1-1 ahead of #2 Kaylie Kayer on Saturday. Wild Rose is her home track, sure, but that is a great result heading into the WMX season. Destiny didn’t race on Sunday, so we’ll have to wait to see if she can replicate this result in a couple weeks.

And I have to mention the return of #25 Danika White who had a great showing on Saturday with a 3-3 3rd place. She also didn’t race on Sunday.

Here’s a look at the results:

Ryder ended up 28 seconds out front in Open Pro moto 1 and 11 up in moto 2.

There was only 1 Ferguson in the Ladies Open class, surprisingly, and that was #11 Ani Ferguson. Ani was 20 seconds up on 2nd place #726 Jessica Rand in moto 2. (Timing is messed up for moto 1)

Over on the right side of the country, I’m told this was only his 2nd race for teenager #910 Marcus Dureen in the Pro class and he leaves Round 2 of the MRC Atlantic Region with the points lead.

The first round of the Challenge Quebec Motocross Championship will take place this coming weekend at Issoudun/Gravité Action Sports. When I spoke with Dylan Wright at Gopher Dunes, he said there’s a chance this may be the place we see him go up against arch rival Jess Pettis, so if you’re in the area, it would be a good idea to check it out.

Also, we should also see Red Bull KTM rider #151 Harri Kullas from Estonia on the line for the first time, so, again, get there if you can.

There’s lots going on right now as we creep even closer to Round 1 in Calgary in just 2 weekend from now!

I have to get back in vacation mode or I’m going to be in trouble. Have a great week, everyone, and I’ll see you out west in less than 2 weeks.

PS If you’ve ever been tempted to check out the Greek Islands, I recommend doing it exactly at the time of year we’re doing it. The weather is perfect – not 40C and humid – and the big summer rush hasn’t started yet. It’s cool watching all the restaurants get ready for the rush that is coming at the start of June.
