McThoughts: A2 250 SX

By Jeff McConkey

McThoughts

Round 3 of the 250 West went off at A2 on Saturday night. Cooper Webb has scored all 3 wins, but they have not been boring. He has had to make some very impressive passes along the way, and is truly the man of the class. Christian Craig continued to look good all day long, and finally put it together for the main event. Partial Canadian Jimmy Decotis continues to impress and look very good on his Geico Honda. It was a good race, with a lot of action. Let’s take a look at the results and see my thoughts:

250 West

1st Cooper Webb: Is this guy even human? Cooper once again started outside of the top 5, and proceeded to do what Cooper does. And that is, point his Yamaha wherever he wants and dominate the West Coast 250 class.

#1W Cooper Webb.

#1W Cooper Webb.

2nd Zach Osborne: Zach is the heat race assassin of 2016. He just needs to carry it over to the main events. He is riding very well, and it’s nice to see him healthy.

3rd Christian Craig: He stayed off the ground and recorded a career best. I still don’t think his fitness is anywhere near the top few guys, but it’s something to build on.

#38 Christian Craig.

4th Joey Savatgy: Joey had a big get off in the whoops. Surprisingly enough, he was able to get up and still put in a very good result, considering. He’s been riding really good, but is just a tad off the pace of Osborne and Webb.

5th Jimmy Decotis: Another fantastic night for Jimmy. This is the best he has ever ridden Supercross. I honestly see a podium real soon!

#58 Jimmy Decotis.

6th Jordan Smith: I know it’s not a podium, but it is a solid result, and Smith is starting to finish every race. He is still pretty new to SX with only 7 starts, so he has a lot of time to improve and chase that first win.

7th Kyle Cunningham: Kyle’s blistering speed of the past just doesn’t seem to there anymore. With his speed and experience in the 250 class, I really feel a 7th should be his worst finish, not one of his best.

#45 Kyle Cunningham

8th Colt Nichols: Another solid finish for Colt. He started 8th and finished 8th, nothing too exciting to write about. Nichols is having a very good season and is opening a lot of eyes.

9th Mitchell Oldenburg: Oldenburg is on a factory bike, he really needs to start getting factory like finishes. The West isn’t that deep this year talent-wise. (Editor’s note: They probably didn’t show it on TV, but Mitchell came from dead last)

10 Kyle Peters: Decent top 10 for Peters. Just not too sure about his gear, not the best looking stuff out there.

#40 Kyle Peters.

Biggest Stud: Cooper Webb could possibly go undefeated and is my stud once again.

Biggest Dud: I’m still waiting for guys like Chris Alldredge, Alex Martin, and Mitchell Oldenburg to put up some real results. They are on some of the best bikes, and haven’t done a whole lot to talk about yet.

Biggest Surprise: I was just shocked with all of the carnage in the second rhythm lane in the first lap. It was pretty scary to watch.

Cole Thompson Report: Cole had a rough day at A2. He hit the dirt a few times, but tried to race his heat race. After 1 lap, he made a good call to pull the plug and not risk further injury. We should have more news on a possible injury later in the week.
