Welcome to Week #24 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. It’s another busy travel day for the DMX/Dirt Care van and we’re currently in Brandon, Manitoba, with a final destination of Prairie Hill MX near Pilot Mound, just over an hour south of here.
Can I just complain for a second? We, literally, have one highway in this country. Should it not be possible to keep this one highway in pristine condition? If you’re not from Canada that probably sounds absolutely crazy for one of the biggest countries on the globe, but it’s true.
It looks like some rain has gone through here recently, but the #1 Highway is almost all dried up here and it looks to have moved to the east. (It just started to rain again…) We’re supposed to have a slight chance of rain Saturday morning here but then the forecast says 15% chance of rain on Sunday with a high of 21 Celsius. It should be perfect!
I’m staying at a rather interesting hotel in Manitou tonight and Saturday. I just wanted to put that out there because in case I go missing that will be ground zero…
Week #24 belongs to Dylan Rempel. Dylan is becoming a fan favourite with his light approach to race day. It’s very difficult to find him without a smile on his face. Of course, when the gate drops, you know he’s all business.
He finished a solid 2-2 behind defending 250 champion Preston Kilroy. They traded positions at least once in moto 1 but Dylan said he rode it home for 2nd, more or less.
Wild Rose MX is an interesting track and I don’t know if the results are going to be the same in the 250 class this week. I expect more from the 3 American riders #227 Vincent Wey, #177 Kade Johnson, and #31 Ryder Malinoski.
I know this Update is going to go past my usual 4:00pm Eastern deadline, so let’s get to our interview with Dylan before the street lights come on.
Here’s what Dylan Rempel had to say this week. | Bigwave photo
Direct Motocross: Hey, Dylan. The series just started last weekend, but let’s first back up a bit. Give us your hometown, age, height, and weight.
How was it for you getting used to the Honda after being on the KTM last season? Anything that took some time to get used to?
Transitioning was really smooth. I felt comfortable right aways, as soon as I was on the Honda.
What was the highlight of your winter months? I know you drove around with Dylan Wright from track to track.
Training at the Dog Pound was sweet and trying out something different driving all the way out to Mesquite MX with my teammate, Dylan.
Dylan and Preston Kilroy went at it pretty fiercely at Round 1 in Calgary last week. | Bigwave photo
Would you say you came into the 2026 season more ready or the same as always. Was there anything you targeted on to get better?
Just did lots more seat time this off season. I would say I’m more prepared this season than I have been.
You were 2nd last year in the 250 series. Preston Kilroy won and is back to defend this summer. What’s it going to take to beat someone as smooth and consistent as Preston?
Just have to try and be faster. Haha
Dylan has been on everyone’s radar for a long time. | Bigwave 2020 photo
OK, so you just went head to head with him in Calgary last week. You led laps but ended up 2-2. You mentioned the track would bite you if you pushed. Did you leave feeling confident with your pace compared to his?
My result was definitely better than last year’s. I’m definitely not a big hardpack guy, so just gonna try and be consistent and let it hang when we get on sand.
And what about all the fast, young American riders up this summer? Are you expecting more from them as we head east?
It’s cool to be racing all them. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens on the east coast.
OK, time for a funny story… | Bigwave photo
Derek Schuster told me a story about him trying to give you shit about something and then just ending up laughing. Do you remember that incident?
Yea. lol I went to the casino and didn’t come back to Gophers so Derek told me to get in his truck and dropped me off 10k down the road and run back to the Dunes. I thought it was pretty funny. I had to work out that day anyways.
You seem to have mastered having fun. Is that something you’ve always done or is this something you work on?
I’ve always had fun. Just go do what you love and have fun doing it. I don’t know why so many people take life so serious.
What did you get up to this week between Calgary and Pilot Mound?
Just some riding and golfing with a little bit of fishing and swimming too.
Do you like the Prairie Hill MX track?
Yea, it’s a good track. I’m excited to race there in a couple days.
Are you flying home each week?
Yes.

What track are you looking forward to the most?
Gopher Dunes has always been my favourite.
Hey, are you going to give Supercross another shot someday?
If I can get the opportunity to do it I’d love to.
OK, thanks for talking with us this week. See you in Manitoba. Who would you like to thank?
Honda Canada, GDR, Fox Racing, Oakley, Renthal, Dunlop, MP1 suspension, my mechanic Abe, Trevor Gladish contracting, Dale Brain services, family and friends, and everyone else, thank you.
Dylan prefers softer tracks, so let’s see what he’s got this weekend in Manitoba. | Bigwave photo
#800 Preston Masciangelo is racing AMA Pro Motocross on the CDF Aqua Pools KTM team. | Bigwave photo
I feel bad that we’ve got #800 Preston Masciangelo racing AMA Pro Motocross and we haven’t been giving it the attention it deserves. I’ve got a message out to him for a podcast interview, so watch for the in the next couple days. Good luck in Colorado this weekend, Preston.
Canadian Connor Stevenson will be #269 i the 450 class in Colorado. | Bigwave 2013 photo
We’ll also have #269 Connor Stevenson on the line in Colorado this weekend. He’s originally from the Toronto area but the family moved to Colorado a bunch of years ago. He’ll be supported by Moto Adventure Kawasaki, Money Inc., Actionetix racing. Good luck, Connor. He’s got to be 6’5″ so he shouldn’t be hard to spot out there!
#708 Destiny Slingerland from Cowley, Alberta, will be back in action in the WMX class. | Bigwave 2025 photo
After her 9th place finish at Round 1 at Hangtown last weekend, #708 Destiny Slingerland from Cowley, AB will be back on the line in the WMX class.
And American rider #301 Jordan Jarvis will be pulling double duty again this weekend racing Colorado and then coming north to race in Manitoba. | Bigwave photo
The other big news this weekend south of the border is the Coenen brother from Belgium racing on an off week in the MXGP series.
They’re both currently leading both the 250 (Sasha Coenen) and the 450 class (Lucas Coenen) and it will be interesting to see how they fair against who many believe are the best riders in the world right now, including Jett Lawrence.
OK, I’m already late so we’ll end this week here. Did you get a chance to check out our Highlight/Recap videos from Round 1 brought to you by Callus Moto? No? Here they are:
And you can also check out Round 1 Faces at the Races brought to you by FXR MotoHERE.
Have a great weekend of race watching, everyone! I’m going to finish off this drive and go check out the track.
Uh oh, it looks like someone is going to do some riding at the FXR Moto Ride Day on Monday. I hope my name isn’t on the back of the jersey!I forgot to include this photo of Chris Pawlitski in Face at the Races, and he’s wearing a DMX shirt! Go ahead, Chris… “See you at the races…” | Bigwave photoGo give Dirt Care Moto a follow on Instagram.
