Welcome to Week #30 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. I’m typing this one trackside at the ECAN at Motocross Deschambault just west of Quebec City.

The weather was perfect today, 25C and very little humidity. It’s supposed to creep closer to 30 on Saturday, but it’s been a pretty dry heat, so I’m not worried.

A few titles were handed out today, with several 3rd motos being run. I’ll post a few tidbits from the ECAN after we get to the interview.

It was a long day at the track, so this Update is getting posted later than my usial 4:00pm Eastern deadline. Sorry about that.

Preston Masciangelo from Brantford, Ontario, is the rider with #30 for the 2026 Canadian Triple Crown Series Motocross Nationals.

He got the opportunity to race the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this summer, so he’s been busy criss-crossing the USA, but there’s still a chance we see him at the final round at Walton Raceway in a couple weeks.

He injured himself a bit during qualifying at Southwick and is just back on the bike again. We grabbed him for a quick chat to talk about how everything has been going for him.

Direct Motocross: OK, you’ve been MIA up here in Canada but that’s because you got the opportunity to race the AMA Pro Motocross Championships. Can you take us through how that came together and what it’s meant for your summer of racing?

Preston Masciangelo: I originally started out not having any plans for the summer. At the end of Supercross I signed a deal with CDF Racing for 2027 Supercross. They are based in AZ, and were able to help me do the first 3 rounds of Pro Motocross. The great people over at Pymatuning Holeshot Raceway are helping me race the east coast rounds. It’s an upcoming track in western Pennsylvania. 

Oh, cool. You started at Round 1 at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. Take us through how the racing has been going for you.

It’s been a steady climb. Pala didn’t go so well, but since then I’ve been climbing the ladder, having my best moto score at RedBud a few weeks ago with a 23rd.

Where are you based out of and how are you getting around?

As of right now, I’m based back at home. I’m still just traveling around in the van, going from race to race! Being on the east now makes that a lot easier.

You actually got hurt during qualifying at Southwick. What happened and what did you hurt?

Second lap of first qualifying session. Super weird crash, just put too much weight on my front end coming down a hill and went over the bars. Was concerned about my lower back and left wrist. Nothing broken just super sore! 

What’s the prognosis and how are you doing today?

Been working at it really hard and feeling way better! Today was my first day back on the bike since Southwick! 

So, your winter plan is to do Supercross with this team?

I will be racing the 2027 Supercross season with CDF, my outdoor program involves them! But the full team effort won’t start until SX. 

We’ve only got 2 more rounds to go up here. Are we going to see you running the #30 up here before the season is over?

I was planning on Deschambault! After my crash at Southwick I decided to hold back on that. I’m trying my best to incorporate Walton into my schedule! Would love to do it! 

I always tell people the AMA series is a total grind. How do you find the difference between down there and up here?

It is gnarly. The 250 field in the states is so deep right now. My goal is to be 15-20 by the end of the season down there. It’s hard to compare since I haven’t raced Canada this year yet! Hopefully, I will be able to see where I stack up at Walton if I’m able. 

Where are you right now, by the way? I assume home in Brantford? What have you been doing. 

We’re doing great! Yes sir, I’m back home right now. Doing riding schools and getting myself back healthy for the next few weeks! 

Are you better financially racing as you are in the US or would you be making more and spending less up here?

As of right now, the US makes more sense for me as I’ve been able to find a little more support there in recent months. 

Oh good. What does your future look like? Will you continue to chase the dream down there?

As of right now, we’re set for the rest of the season, and through Supercross. I’ve been making huge strides in the states so it’s hard not to go for more! 

Hey, how old are you now? While we’re at it, let’s get your numbers. What’s your height and weight these days? 

Just turned 20 at the beginning of the year! I’m at 6’0″ and 172 pounds. 

OK, well, I hope we see you at Walton to run that number one time this year. Great to hear you’re feeling better. Who would you like to thank?

Tidbits from the Pits During the ECAN at MX Deschambault

• #131 Adrien Malaval is back for mre here at MX Deschambault. The rider from France raced the Pro Am class this week and really made it look pretty east.
• #785 will be Alex Fedortsov in the 450 class. I’m told he looks really good on the big bike so both he and Malaval will be up in the mix on Sunday for the Moto St-Césaire Yamaha team.
• the bad news was that #12 Sebastien Racine suffered a broken collarbone riding practice here on Tuesday. He’s trying to get it plated here in Quebec. He said that if he could have had it done immediately he would have tried to race with it this week. Hey, Sasha did it!
• I’d like to wish #77 Leith Ness all the best. He collapsed after the races last week at Sand Del Lee and was hospitalized for some test.
• Phil Nicoletti is here on his Husqvarna and will run the #1 for the crowd.
• #5 Tyler Medaglia is racing +30A this week and will race the 450 class on Sunday to earn 10 points and keep his career number.
• I’m parker right beside the Kawasaki SSR team. I’ll go see what their plan is for this weekend and be right back… OK, Steve Simms said they’ll have #29 Kyle Murdoch on the 250 under the tent again this week. They’re also considering pulling in someone for the 450 class but time is short and nothing is confirmed as of this post.
• #73 Crayden Dillon just asked if I’m ready for Tanner Ward‘s ‘Ride with Me‘ road ride at Walton. Yikes, I’d better get training!

OK, let’s leave it there. I’ll post a few things from the ECAN when I’m finished here. Also, I clicked the wrong button on a few of the Instagram Reels from today’s racing. Thank you to Tristan Dares for bringing it to my attention. I’m sorry for that horrible music that got attached, but I can’t figure out how to remove it! I’ll definitely make sure not to press that button on Saturday. Ugh…horrible!
