Frid’Eh Update #34 | Evan Stice | Brought to You by Dirt Care

Welcome to Week #34 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. It’s the first Friday after a couple very long weeks of being at Loretta Lynn’s in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, and then Walton Raceway in Walton, Ontario. It always seems like a great idea to do both events, and then the weather at The Ranch hits you in the face for 6 straight days and it leaves you re-evaluating every decision you’ve ever made.

But, I made it and now I’m sitting comfortably in my home office in the AC. The action for Canadians isn’t over yet, however. We’ve got several headed to Budds Creek in Mechanicsville, Maryland, for the 2nd-to-last AMA Pro Motocross Championship race.

I won’t make it to Budds Creek, but I’ll definitely be at the finale at Ironman MX in Crawfordsville, Indiana, next week.

Harri Kullas is set for his first Half Ironman triathlon Sunday in Estonia. | Bigwave photo

In non-moto news, and speaking of Ironman, Canadian Triple Crown Series Motocross Nationals 450 runner-up, Harri Kullas, will race his first-ever Half Ironman race in Estonia this weekend at the Ironman 70.3 Tallinn.

I’ve done well over 100 triathlons, including the Hawaii Ironman twice and the “Olympic” distance World Championships, so I took special interest in this when I spoke with Harri last week. I joked that I think I’m more excited about him doing this race than he is!

He’s strong on the bike and said his strength is actually the run, so it sounds like he’ll be in fine shape on Sunday. It’s wetsuit mandatory, so he’s getting in the water today to get used to it so he doesn’t hyperventilate on Sunday morning. It’s true, everyone freaks out the first time they try to swim in a skin-tight wetsuit.

Good luck, Harri.

I think he did a great job with the partisan fans this summer at the Canadian races. He knew full well that just about everyone was cheering for Dylan Wright to win this title and always pointed that out in his podium speeches. He was gracious in both defeat and victory. He’s a great fit for our series, in my opinion.

With some big changes headed our way for 2027, it will be interesting to see what happens with all of the riders under the KTM umbrella.

Evan Stice at Cold Lake in Alberta in 2025. | Bigwave photo

Evan Stice is the rider from Idaho that we got to know the last couple years. He’s the rider who would have run the #34 for the 2026 Triple Crown Series season. Unfortunately, we never got to see him do that, and we asked him why not in our interview.

Al Dyck picked him up to ride the Triumph in 2025 and he finished 14th in the 450 class after missing a couple rounds. Here’s a look back at that season.

Here’s what he had to say when we contacted him this week:

Direct Motocross: Hey, Evan. We didn’t see you up here to run the #34 this summer. Why not?

Evan Stice: Hey, what’s up, guys! Well, I had plans of coming up and racing Calgary this year, but a week before the race my health insurance randomly dropped me. And that was that. I don’t know why they dropped me, just a freak thing I guess.

What did you get up to? I looked on your Instagram and it wasn’t full of racing clips or pics.

Honestly, I’ve had a pretty chill summer hanging with the fam and just training. It’s honestly been nice to take a break, but I’m itching to race again!

What do you do for your 9-5 gig? Do you enjoy it?

I don’t really work a 9-5. I’ll help my dad when he needs help working on tractors or stuff like that, but I’ve been full-time training. I started working with Cole Martinez and he’s been a huge help. My fitness was definitely my limiting factor in years past and I’m getting to a place where I’ll be able to win soon.

Evan has been dealing with Epstein Barr the past couple years. | Spikman photo

It looked like you were getting ready to race early on before the summer started?

Yeah, the plan was to race some Canadian stuff and some Pro Motocross stuff but I got super sick again at the beginning of the year and it’s honestly kicked my but. A lot of people don’t know this, but I’ve been struggling with Epstein Barr for the past 2 years and I’m just starting to figure out how to train and ride without it acting up. But it seems like we’ve figured it out finally, thankfully!

Oh wow. I definitely didn’t know that. Where have you been spending your time?

I’ve been in Idaho at home in the Bosie area. I love it down here, definitely my favorite place I’ve been to!

What’s your connection to Napoleon Dynamite? Have you ever seen the movie, and if so, what did you think?

Haha. No real connection to it. I have seen the movie. I’ve actually been to the house it was shot at. Lol. It’s a dumb movie but that’s what makes it funny. Me and Chance Hymas did a pretty funny short film years ago. You’ll have to check it out on my instagram!

Have you been following the racing in the USA or up here in Canada? What did you think?

I’ve been watching both series, actually. The Canadian title in both classes was definitely fun to watch. Congrats to both the Dylans for winning the championships!

As far as Pro Motocross goes, the title in both classes is so tight. I hope (Levi) Kitchen can bring it home. I feel like he’s earned it!

Evan would love to come race our series again in 2027. | Bigwave photo

Would you come back and race our series again if you had some support?

I’ll definitely be back to Canada, hopefully next year. But yes, I do need support to do all of them. It just cost too much for me to do them all. But if any teams need a rider hit me up, I would love to work with someone and I honestly believe I can win some races next year.

What does your racing future look like?

I plan on doing some local races here soon, but the main thing I’m getting ready for is West Coast Supercross. The plan is the get into some main events this year!

Sweet. Good luck! What other sports do you like?

Honestly, I’m not that big of a sports fan other than dirt bikes. Lol. I do like mountain biking and I do that quite a bit! We’ve got some awesome bike parks pretty close to me. It’s fun to go get loose with the boys!

What are your plans for the rest of the summer?

My plans for the rest of the summer are to do everything in my power to be the best/fittest version of myself, so we’re gonna stay locked in and grind. Hahah

And what about this winter? Where will you base yourself?

This winter I’ll probably be in California riding Supercross. I’m super excited to get back on SX and see what I can do!

Hey, let’s get your numbers. What’s your age, weight, and height? I don’t know why, but I like to know this stuff. Lol

I am 21 years old, I’m 5 feet 8 inches tall, and I weigh 148 pounds.

Watch for him in 250 West Supercross in 2027. | Bigwave photo

OK, thanks for taking some time with us this week. Good luck with everything. Is there anyone you’d like to thank?

I’ve gotta give a huge shout to my mom and dad for believing in me and helping me give this dirt bike thing one more good run. Also, I have to thank Cole Martinez for everything he’s doing! And my gear sponsorship with MSR.

WMX Moto 1 at Budds Creek

Once again, #301 Jordan Jarvis, who is fighting for 3rd place in the championship, was left at the starting line when the gate dropped, taking a DNS.

#469 Jamie Astudillo moved up from outside the top 10 to take 7th at the flag.

🇨🇦 #912 Kaylie Kayer was up in 8th place but then had trouble and dropped back to 13th place. She regrouped and made her was back up to 8th behind Astudillo at the flag.

🇨🇦 #18 Hannah Cole was back outside the top 25 but made a few passes and finished 20th at the flag.

The 2008 MX Forum Party at The Ceeps in London will say it this week: “See you at the races...” | Bigwave photo
