Grab another cup for this week’s Monday Morning Coffee opinion column covering some of what happened in Motocross this weekend

I hope every dad out there had a great Father’s Day weekend. I’m sure most of you spent it cleaning bikes (most of which likely weren’t even yours) and sleeping at a race track somewhere. I bet there was some congratulating and some consoling mixed in there too.
There’s a time when fathers spend every weekend chasing the Motocross dream. It means getting home late Sunday night and wondering if everything will be fine if you just unhook the trailer and leave it all in the trailer and go straight to bed. I’m sure it’ll be fine…
Then Junior hits the age where he/she is old enough to drive. Do you share the driving with your 16-year-old kid? I remember being 16 and still thinking I was too precious and the upcoming or previous race day made it so that I needed to relax in the back seat while Dad red-eyed it both to and from the races. In hindsight, I really should have done more driving back then.
I’m not a parent but I know it can be a thankless job. But you don’t do it for the praise, you do it because you still love being at the track and having family of your own to go through it is enough.
As a kid, you’re not supposed to be thoughtful enough to consider everyone else’s feelings. You just go and race. That’s your job. Like I said, I’m not a parent but I get to witness this dynamic many many weekends of the calendar year.
I hope you all had a great weekend and have made it back to work today.
If you want to look at a perfect father/son weekend, just think about Tyler Medaglia and Talon Medaglia driving home from Birch Creek MX in Virginia after Talon went 1-1-1-1 in his classes at the Loretta Lynn’s MX Regional Qualifier this past weekend.
#5 Talon Medaglia just won all 4 of his classes at Birch Creek MX in #Virginia.

We’ll see Talon at the ECAN at Motocross Deschambault and the #transcan at Walton Raceway. Congratulations, Talon. I bet that makes the drive home to Nova Scotia much more enjoyable!

Unfortunately, we lost #15 Jess Pettis to a torn right ACL at Round 2 at Prairie Hill MX In Manitoba. He’s already got surgery scheduled so he’ll be onto the next step which is the long and tedious rehad from this particular repair. Here’s what he said on his Instagram page:
All of these injuries that force you to miss an entire racing season hurt, but I think this one hits him even harder than the rest. He showed he has the speed to go for wins in this 450 series again this year and now he won’t get to prove it. Heal up, Jess.

We had 3 Canadians trying to qualify for Round 4 of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship at High Point MX in Pennsylvania. Let’s have a look at their results:
