FXR has been hosting this Ride Day as racers make their way east across the country after competing in the western swing of the Canadian Triple Crown Series Motocross Nationals (or its predecessor) for a long time now. I’ve been going since it started and I think I may have even been in the Buick station wagon a time or two.
After Round 2 at Prairie Hill MX not too far down the road, we all met at Milt Reimer‘s little slice of moto heaven to enjoy some riding, some bench racing, and some food…some of which fit in my pockets for the long drive back to Ontario, but we won’t mention that here.
My plan was to hop on a bike in some new FXR gear and show everyone, including 2025 Canadian 250 champion Preston Kilroy and Round 2 winner Ryder Malinoski, some of the better lines for faster laps, but weather put an end to that opportunity.
As the sky darkened and threatened to strand the #dmxdirtcarevan right there in the middle of a field, I made the decision to grab a sandwich or two and head for the hills…er, I mean, the plains and get out of there before I got stuck.
You can see a lot of sky in that part of the country and you really couldn’t be sure just where was going to actually get hit with the storm. It looked like it was hitting all over the pace in random patters. To be honest, I don’t even think they ended up getting a drop at the track! Oh well, I’ll put in some “hot laps” next year.
Thank you to the entire crew who always treat me well at these things. It’s always fun to chat with everyone. Here’s a look at some of who was there, on and off the track.
In what feels like the literal middle of nowhere, no offence, sits this little shangri-la of a motocross track alongside a crooked river.FXR creator and owner, Milt Reimer, always starts off with a few fish tales to set the mood. How big was that trout, Milt?MX and Snow Development guy, Carson Soviak, also says a few words. As does Matt Hamm who is FXR’s Head Designer.Brand Manager Andy White also got up and said a few words. I didn’t see him on the track, either. We’ll get ’em next time, Andy.Greg Small walked around with a clipboard so nobody would ask him any questions. I can’t believe how long it’s been since he was a regular in my Photo Reports!Aaron Wiebe tried to blend into the scenery. “Aaron Wiebe” is basically another way to pronounce FXR.Only a few years ago, you could have made this Ride Day open to anyone who rode in FXR gear. Nowadays, that would mean a large portion of the Pro field would show up!There was a good but manageable mix of riders to go along with the MX101 FXR Yamaha team. What a cool way to spend a summer – travelling and racing with your dad.We were just a day off from the injury to Kevin Tyler’s top 450 rider, Jess Pettis, so he was checking in for updates. Austin Jones and his moustache made an appearance on and off the track. I think he was talking to Higgins here (Google it, Bowker!).A good chunk of the office got to take the day away, so you know they were pumped! That’s fast, young, up-and-comer #402 Madden Bell.Aaron just cruises around spreading joy.Wait a second, what’s going on here? Yep, KT hit the track on the #15 450.But first he had to see Preston and Ryder’s lap times to see what the goal was…I love that Milt shows up with 4 bikes. They’ve all got different suspension on them and he compares them all.Matt and Carson have been at FXR a very long time too.Young Pro #41 Jayden Riley and soon-to-be-Pro #21 Adrien Desmarais. I hope Adrien makes his way east and races Junior at the TransCan because he gave #165 Braxton Becker a good run for his money.Greg still gets around the track fast. He did a local off-road race the day before this.I think they’re trying to get to the bottom of where all the sandwiches and drinks went… 🤷♂️There was a yellow bike there!
OK, we’ll end this with a bunch of in-helmet photos:
Thanks for another great day in Manitoba. See you next year...
