Frid’Eh Update #27 | Tanner Scott | Brought to You by Dirt Care
By Billy Rainford

Welcome to Week #27 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. It was a bit of a crazy week for me as I was forced to replace the DMX Van while we were in Ottawa and Montreal last weekend. Yes, I realize I’ve been talking about it for about 3 years, but it finally happened and it wasn’t really by choice. The old van was about to lose the engine. Anyway, I’m in a new version of the old one and it feels great to have a nice, solid ride again.
It’s been nice to be able to work from home for a couple weeks. I’ll be able to this week and next before we make the trip to Sand Del Lee, River Glade, and then Deschambault. I’ll stay out on the road for those and I’m looking forward to heading east again.
Tanner Scott is the rider with #27 for the 2025 season. We’ve all had our eyes on him since he was a youngster on little bikes. In fact, I have a video clip somewhere of him ripping a huge double along the far side of GPF on his 65 that I don’t think many big bikes were doing! It was pretty wild.
Since then, he’s left an indelible mark in the record books of the TransCan at Walton Raceway. He had a perfect week once and then was on his way to another until he got “bumped” out of it.
He’s made the move up to the 450 class for 2025. Here’s a look at his season after the first 3 rounds:

Here’s what Tanner (or TJ) had to say when we got in touch with him this week. We also gave him the Ryno Power Canada Privateer Performance of the Week for Ste Julie last week, so he’s getting lots of press from DMX!

Direct Motocross: Hey, Tanner. For starters, do you like to be called Tanner or TJ? And how old are you now?
Tanner Scott: It feels like you’ve asked me this question for at least 10 years now. lol. I respond to both but at the track I feel people mainly refer to me as Tj and I am 19 years old.
OK, I’ll actually pay attention to your answer this time, TJ. Lol. So, you finished 11th in the 250 class in 2024 and had a best overall of 8th at Pilot Mound in Manitoba. Were you happy with your season?
My season was pretty good considering I didn’t do much training or riding throughout the year. I was just out there. I definitely was getting mad with where I was finishing but looking back I did pretty good. Definitely would’ve liked to squeeze into the top 10, but it’s Motocross and we had our up and downs.

What did you get up to over the winter? Do you also race sleds or is that just Hunter.
I am personally not a fan of the cold. You might catch me on the hills snowboarding for very minimal time though. I spent my winter down at WW Ranch with the Club 57 guys. I had a blast and learnt a lot.
You made the decision to race the 450 class this season. Can you take us through that decision?
I just feel as though I ride the 450 better and we had a few bike issues last year and as everyone knows keeping a mod bike together isn’t always the easiest, so with a fair share of bike issues and me riding the 450 better we decided it would be the best decision for riding and my dad’s wallet.

Are you happy with the choice?
Yea, I’ve been feeling really good on the bike as of late and the more rough track I feel suits my style.
Is there a reason you chose to go with Honda?
I rode one in the fall and honestly just loved it. Shane at Parkway Power Sports really wanted to help us out for the upcoming season too and it all just worked out really well.

I know your dad, Jim Scott, is helping out your buddy Crayden Dillon in the Premix class. Can you take us through that decision to not have your dad helping you at the line on race day? And who is your guy at the races?
My dad’s a racer and we tend to disagree a lot on race day and we had Phil Masters, my mechanic, around last year he just wasn’t taking me to the gate. So we decided to just try something new and I’ve been enjoying him at the gate. He keeps things light for sure.
We’re 3 rounds in this summer and you’re sitting in a close points battle in 11th. Your results have been 11, 11, 9. How is it going for you and what’s the biggest difference racing the 450 class?
The gap between qualifying and the motos is the biggest difference. I enjoy it because it makes it easier to get food down before motos and I always struggled with that.

I just did a podcast interview and I was told Ste Julie was the gnarliest track they’d ever raced on. How was it for you?
I loved it, to be honest. I am a very techy rider I would say and my riding was really good just came at bad times but I slowly feel like I’m getting closer to the group of 5-8 guys.
We’re now heading to tracks you’re familiar with. Do you think you can move yourself up the points list?
Yea, I believe I can do better as we come east. We’re still building and getting better with the bike and I like a lot of the upcoming tracks.

Everyone talks about how tough Gopher Dunes is and it’s supposed to be hot and humid this weekend. Is that a good thing out a bad thing for you? And what is your favourite track on the circuit?
Gopher and I have a love hate relationship, but I like the deep hole sand and I feel I’m in a great spot for the heat and I’m excited to get the weekend rolling. A favourite track is hard to pick, I like quite a few. My favourite might have to be Motocross Deschambault though.

Did you know your dad introduces himself as the winningest amateur dad in Canada?
I have heard this a few times now…
When we get to Sunday at the end of the day in Walton, what will you be happy with?
I would honestly just like to end up top 10 in the 450 class which I believe gets me a career number.
OK, thanks for taking some time with us this week. Good luck with the rest of the series. Who would you like to thank?
Mom and dad, Parkway power sports, Hall race fuel, 139 designs, Honda Canada, Fox Racing Canada, Bondi engines, RJ Motorsport, Ken Bland, Brentwood roofing, Matrix Concepts, Guts seats, Hinson, and everyone else that is helping, thanks.

AMA Pro Motocross Championship Heads to Red Bud

I wonder how many riders will race Red Bud Saturday then make the drive north to race Gopher Dunes on Sunday? I know #800/71 Preston Masciangelo is going to give it a shot! When you see him on Sunday, be sure to give him a high five for attempting the double!

Videos from Ste Julie
Robbie Wageman First-Ever Stark Electric at Canadian National
Heartbeat Hot Sauce Stark rider Robbie Wageman from California came north to race an electric bike at Round 3 of the 2025 Canadian Triple Crown Series Motocross Nationals in Ste Julie, Quebec. It was his first time in Canada and the first time an electric bike had been raced at a Canadian MX National, so it was a pretty big deal.
We grabbed Robbie at his home in Santa Clarita, California, to talk about all of it.
If you’re heading to Gopher Dunes this weekend, don’t look for the old red DMX Van. There’s a new set of wheels for me to run into the ground. After toiling over going bigger to a Ford Transit, I decided the minivan was the right vehicle for my needs 98% of the time, so I just replaced it with a new one.
Right now it’s black, but that should be changing in the near future and it will be a combination of the bright green of Dirt Care with the black and red of Direct Motocross. We’ll have to wait and see what the guys design for it, but I”m sure it’ll make a statement rolling down every highway and biway in North America!

The weather will be hot but it should feel close to what the temperature actually says, so it won’t be super-humid like we’ve seen in the past.
Have a great weekend, everyone. See you at Gopher Dunes!
