Welcome to Week #31 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. I’m home from Motocross Deschambault and about ready to head out on the next MX Road Trip. I haven’t been to Loretta Lynn’s since 2018, I think. I did the drive from River Glade straight there and then to Walton. It was rough.

With so many of our fast amateur riders heading to The Ranch this year, I’ve decided it’s time to make a return trip to Tennessee in August. Ugh, it’s brutal.

I have a game plan of how I want to cover the Canadians and the overall event, so I hope I can last all 5 days in that heat without dropping dead. It will be about a slow, southern pace.

We’ve only got one round of Canadian Triple Crown Series Motocross Nationals to go at Walton Raceway and this week’s Update honouree is pretty timely.

#31 Ryder Malinoski is just 3 points behind #24 Dylan Rempel in the 250 class. He’s half Canadian and will also be racing at Loretta’s next week in the Pro Sport class.

Here’s what he had to say in his first Frid’Eh Update Interview:

Direct Motocross: Hey, Ryder. Since this is our first Update Interview, we’ll have to take it back for a second. Can you tell us where you’re from and how you got into Motocross in the first place?

Ryder Malinoski: Yeah, I’m From Chisago City, Minnesota, and I got into dirt bikes when Covid hit and I couldn’t play any more school sports. Only thing I could do is ride a dirt bike. I went to Millville for the first time and had so much fun meeting so many new friends and just wanted to go every weekend. 

And how come you’re not a full-time Snocross guy?

My dad (Robbie Malinoski) would never let me race snowmobiles. I wanted to, but he just never thought it was a good idea and wanted me to just stick to my school sports, but then when I got into dirt bikes, he liked that more and was pumped that I was into it.

I know you’re half Canadian. Can you tell us where your parents are from?

Yeah, my dad is from Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and my mom is from Minnesota.

Let’s get your numbers: what’s your age, height, and weight?

I’m 19 years young, I’m 155 pounds, and I’m 5’8″.

You won the SMX Next All Stars race in St Louis in 2025. Was that the biggest win of your career? 

Yes, that’s probably been my biggest win of my career so far.

You said in Deschambault that winning the Canadian 250 championship would be great, but that it’s not like the be all/end all for you; you’ve got your eyes set on racing elsewhere. Obviously, we’re talking AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross. What’s the plan for you when our series ends after Walton Raceway?

Yeah, the plan for me is to do Budds Creek Pro National and Ironman Pro National and then also finish out the year with the SMX Next Playoffs.

You’re just 3 points down heading to Round 8. Have you thought about your game plan for the 2 remaining motos? How do you see the day playing out. 

Yeah, exciting. Definitely crazy going into the final round three points down and, no, the game plan for me is pretty simple – I just have to go and do my best and try to beat (Dylan) Rempel.

Since it’s been you and Dylan Rempel separating yourselves from the rest, what’s your relationship like with him? Do you guys talk?

No, we don’t talk much but I respect him. He’s a good kid and he’s a good racer.

What have you been doing between rounds? 

Working on my weaknesses and recovery. 

Training at Club MX is very regimented and controlled. Is that the type of program that works best for you?

Yes, for sure. I definitely can’t take my foot off the gas. Every time I do that I feel worse.

I know you were going to try to get your Canadian passport sorted out so you could be in consideration for Team Canada MXON. Timing is getting tight before we head to France. What are the chances you’ll have that done in time to possibly make the team?

Not likely. It’s gonna take too long to get that, but I hope to do it in the future.

What do you do for fun when you’re not all-in on Moto?

Hang out with my friends, go get a nice breakfast or dinner. Go play some golf.

Canadians at Loretta Lynn’s

With so many of our top racers making the trek to Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross Championship, I’ve made the late decision to be there, myself. It’s always too hot but I don’t want to miss this one in particular. Here’s a look at the Canadians to keep an eye on. If I missed anyone, please let me know so I can watch for them at The Ranch.

OK, it’s supposed to rain here this weekend, so I’d better get out and change the oil in the #DMXDirtCareVan while I can. I heard there are back-ups on the American side of the new Gordie Howe Bridge, so I guess I’ll cross over at the Bluewater Bridge that goes from Sarnia to Port Huron, MI.
