Frid’Eh Update #47 | Devyn Smith | Brought to You by Dirt Care
Week #47 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update belongs to Devyn Smith from Maple Ridge, BC and is brought to you by Dirt Care.
By Billy Rainford

Welcome to Week #47 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. This Friday sees us on the eve of a few things in our sport. Out west in Chilliwack, BC, Round 1 of the West Coast AX series is about to kick off in Chilliwack Heritage Park. Round 4 of the Australian Supercross series is in Melbourne this weekend. The final round of AMA Endurocross will take place in Everett, Washington. It will also host a Women’s Pro class where Canadian Shelby Turner will be the favourite. And I’m about to hop in the #dmxvan and head south on I-75 to Gainesville, Florida, for the 43rd Annual Mini O’s at Gatorback Cycle Park.
It always takes a couple days to get back on schedule after coming east from western time. We were in Vancouver for Round 2 of the 2025 World Supercross Championship at BC Place. I had someone else shoot photos for DMX last year but I knew I had to be there in person this time, and I’m glad I was. I’m not sure they’ll return to the west coast in 2026, but they definitely showed interest in returning to Canada.
You can check out our ‘Faces at the Races‘ column from the event HERE.
I was interested to talk to this week’s honouree because he has stepped away from chasing the entire Canadian Triple Crown Series MX Nationals and instead remained out in BC for the 2025 summer. He even stepped outside the box and raced more off-road events than moto.
Devyn Smith is the rider from Maple Ridge, BC who really had no other choice than to be a motocross racer; his dad, Troy Smith, owns Maple Ridge Motorsports.
I’m embedding his Instagram post here because I don’t have any shots of him running the #47:
He’s been steadily improving but sometimes you have to make life decisions and do what you think is best for you and your future, and that’s what Devyn has done. We didn’t see him on the line at the Nationals last summer. Instead, he’s got himself a lifetime job and will ride and race whenever it makes sense for him.
Let’s get to our interview:

Direct Motocross: So Devyn, I guess we have to start by asking you the obvious question: Where were you for the 2025 season? We didn’t see you on the line at any of the Triple Crown rounds. How come?
Devyn Smith: After the 2024 season I decided not to do the Triple Crown Series anymore. I decided it was time to start working and making some money.
Does this mean that’s it for you chasing the MX Nationals?
I don’t see myself racing the whole series again, but I’m sure I’ll race a round or two here and there in the future. I still want to try and qualify for some AMA Pro Motocross rounds, so if I can get time off in the summer I’ll definitely try some of those out.

I looked on your Instagram page and you were pretty busy racing the Future West Moto series and some big, off-road races. Let’s talk about those. You did the Stumpjumper 100 and placed an impressive 4th. That looks like a pretty wild race! Can you tell us about that one in April?
Yes, I raced the Pemberton round of Future West Moto which was a blast, and that Stumpjumper 100 was a wild race. Going into a 100-mile dessert race for the first time was pretty cool, especially lining up with hundreds of other racers at once when I’m only used to a 40-man gate. I got a great start in 3rd and kinda faded back a little on the last lap but I had a blast. I hope to be able to race it again next year.
And I’ve ridden MTB on Vedder Mountain but you then did an off-road race there in May. What’s that one all about?
When I got back from nationals I wanted to get into some trail riding so I started riding Vedder quite a bit and had lots of fun with it. This race popped up so I decided to give it a shot and had lots of fun. I hit about every tree on that mountain. The new 450 looked like it had 200 hours on it when I was finished.

And how did you do in the Future West Moto series go for you?
I only raced one Future West round this year in Pemberton and had a blast. That’s definitely one of my favourite tracks where I live.
I also saw you did a BC Children’s fundraiser at Agassiz. What was that all about?
Agassiz put on a BC Children’s fundraiser at the their track which was a great time. Fun day on the bike with a great dinner and raffle at the end to support.

How were the Tuesday Night races at Mission this year? Do they get good weekly numbers and good Pro riders?
There isn’t any racing at the Mission track anymore. Half of the track got taken away from us, so there Isn’t really a whole lot of room for gates anymore. The practices were always good with decent turnouts. Most of the pro riders were away at nationals for most of the practices so it wasn’t to busy with them.
I haven’t seen many posts on social media lately though. What have you been doing?
Yeah, I haven’t been posting a whole lot on social media lately, I’ve been working quite a bit. I started working for Precision Drilling on one of their oil and gas drilling rigs in Cold Lake, Alberta, so I’ve been keeping busy doing that. I still ride as much as I can this time of year on my days off, but the weather kinda sucks right now for it.

Oh wow. What does the future look like for you?
I’ll be rigging for quite a while. I plan on getting into real estate investing in the near future so I’ll be working towards that for the next years to come.
I know you were getting into cooking. What’s the best dish you’ve learned to prepare lately?
I’m definitely pretty good at making steaks, and can also cook a pretty mean brisket. Anything on a smoker or BBQ I can handle pretty good.
I know your family is huge in the sport – you guys own Maple Ridge Motorsports. Are they happy to not be travelling across the country or do they miss it?
I definitely miss racing across the country it was always a ton of fun. I’m sure my dad misses it too, but it was time for me to start making some money to get closer to my goals.
Makes sense. What do you have planned for this winter? Just working?
I’ll be working all winter, probably do some snowboarding on my days off if we get some snow.

And what will you do next summer?
I’ll be working all year. I got lucky enough to get on a rig that runs all year and doesn’t go into breakup. Maybe take some time off in the spring or early summer and do some travelling and racing if everything goes good.
OK, thanks for catching up with us this week. Good luck with everything and is there anyone you’d like to thank?
Yes, thanks Billy for the questions! Big thank you to all the great supporters that I have!
West Coast Arenacross Starts Tonight

Racing gets underway tonight at the Chilliwack Heritage Park in Chilliwack, BC for Round 1 of the 4-round West Coast Arenacross championship series.
Defending champion Tyler Gibbs is back home from his Supercross preparation in California to run the #1 and try his best to hold onto it against some pretty solid competition from Canada as well as from south of the border.
Blake Davies will be there on his Husqvarna, Quinn Amyotte will be there on his GasGas, Dylan Rempel will be there on his Honda, as well as Bryton Carroll and Collin Jurin from the USA.
Carroll has been doing well this off season in the north east, winning almost every money race he entered this fall. And Jurin is a former champ and is always a threat to win indoors in The Barn.
There will be at least 12 fast Pro riders in attendance, so be sure to get to Chilliwack if you can!
We’ll have Kyle Springman sending us photos and video clips throughout the night, so thank you for that, Kyle.

Noah Viney to Bubba Pauli’s ISRT Kawasaki SMX Team
ISRT Kawasaki Announces 2026 Rider Lineup
Edwardsville, IL — ISRT Kawasaki is proud to announce its 2026 competition roster, featuring a blend of returning riders, rising stars, and internationally proven talent as the team looks ahead to its most ambitious season yet.
Returning Riders
Max Miller returns to the team and will graduate to the 450 class for the 2026 season. After multiple strong performances aboard the 250 in 2025, Miller is prepared to take on the premier class full-time.
Tristan Dalton also returns to ISRT Kawasaki and will compete in the SMX Next category, continuing his development before making his transition into the professional ranks.
New Additions for 2026
ISRT Kawasaki welcomes three high-profile riders—all previously competing on Honda equipment in 2025:
Vince Friese — 450 Class
A veteran of the sport, Vince Friese brings years of premier-class experience, world-class starts, and an aggressive, front-running racecraft. ISRT is eager to compete with the sport’s best in 2026 with Friese leading their charge in Supercross and Pro Motocross.
Cornelius Tøndel — 450 Class
Hailing from Norway, Cornelius Tøndel joins the team as one of Europe’s top rising MXGP talents. At just 23 years old, he already boasts multiple top-10 results and a career podium in MXGP competition aboard a 450.
2026 will be Tøndel’s first full season racing in the United States, and ISRT is thrilled to help showcase his speed on American soil.

Noah Viney — 250 Class
Young Canadian standout Noah Viney enters his first full season racing professionally in the United States. Now based in California, Viney will represent ISRT Kawasaki in both Supercross and Pro Motocross. His raw speed, strong work ethic, and technical riding style make him one of the most promising rookies of 2026.
Leadership Perspective
“This 2026 lineup is something we’ve been working hard on since June of this summer,” said team owner Bubba Pauli. “With many returning sponsors and several new ones, we’re excited to go racing with fresh faces and strengthened support. This is a major step forward for ISRT.”
Team Crew Chief Derek Rankin added:
“The team has been putting in a ton of work to ensure our equipment is elevated for both incoming and returning talent. Our goal is to prove we can compete with the best riders in the world using privately built engines outside of factory support. We’re ready for 2026.”
Looking Ahead
Fans can expect increased team content, testing updates, and sponsor announcements in the coming weeks as ISRT Kawasaki ramps up for Round 1 in Anaheim, California on January 10, 2026.
Walton Raceway Welcomes Kyle and Sophia Keast
Walton Raceway, one of Canada’s most iconic motocross venues, is entering a new chapter as Kyle and Sophia Keast take over ownership this year. A lifelong motocross racer, Kyle and his wife Sophia are bringing their team’s skills, passion, and energy to build on Walton’s long and impactful legacy.
“This is such a cool opportunity for me, to take on this role in Canadian motocross,” said Kyle. “I went to my first TransCan as a kid on a Honda CR60. Now my own kids are racing. I want the TransCan Grand National Championship to stay the special event it has always been for racers and families. What we can bring is development of the infrastructure around the property and the race track itself. It is a special destination and we want it to grow.”
Brett Lee and Melody Hodgson see this transition as the natural next step for the raceway.
“For Melody and myself, we are still huge fans of moto. That is not changing,” said Lee. “We wanted to align with people who are as passionate as we are about creating an awesome space for people to enjoy. Kyle and Sophia share that passion. We are excited for what we will continue to bring to Canadian moto, to keep growing the Edge of Walton Challenge Course, and to support where we can to keep the Walton TransCan Grand National Championship and the Canadian Triple Crown Series finale as flagship events in Canada. Our goal is to see strong and successful years ahead.”
Exciting track and grounds improvements, expanded programming, and new initiatives built to broaden Walton’s future and keep racer and visitor experiences fresh are already in motion. Fans, families, racers, and industry partners can expect Walton’s 2026 season to deliver elevated experiences while maintaining the familiar Canadian destination it has been since 1972.
OKI, I’m off to get the van packed before heading south for another Mini O’s adventure. Don’t forget, you can catch all the action live on RacerTV from Sunday to Saturday!

I’ll be posting things all day, every day to let you know how our Canadians are doing, so be sure to check our Instagram and Facebook pages all week.

Thanks to Callus for their support of our coverage next week. Be sure to give them a follow on Instagram.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
