Somehow we find ourselves with a 53rd Frid’Eh Update this year (It could be argued that ’53rd and 3rd’ was the first-ever ‘punk rock’ song). I (Billy) find myself driving home from the Great White Northern town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, and have no time to post anything of my own. With that in mind, we’d like to dedicate this Update to all of the readers who have helped keep Direct Motocross at the forefront of all things Canadian Motocross and more in 2014. To steal a saying from the entertainment industry, “Without you out there, there wouldn’t be any point in us doing what we do in here!” So a heartfelt thank you to everyone of you.

We’d also like to extend a very warm thank you to all the sponsors and advertising partners who have felt confident enough in our abilities here to continue their support of the site. Again, without you DMX does not happen. When you read the site, please take the time to frequent the various advertisers’ websites you see listed in the banners on the page. It matters to them and that really matters to us. Thank you to all.

The only other thing I have to add to this Update is this photo of my father falling asleep after all the gifts were opened here at my aunt’s place. Opening his lump of coal really seemed to take it out of him. I’m doing my best to make this silly ‘Grumpy Dad‘ image go viral and become the subject of many Christmas-themed memes, so feel free to knock yourselves out. In fact, if you email your memes to me at billy@directmotocross.com I’ll be sure to post my choice as the best one up on the site. Do your worst!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and were able to spend it with family and friends. There is nothing better than checking out social media on Christmas Day and seeing some of the fantastic gifts that people have been receiving. I’ve already noticed that a few of our readers have received brand new bikes as their gifts. Talk about lucky! Other lucky readers are spending their Christmas vacations down south ripping it up.

Woman racer Sierra Roth sent me an update on her Christmas trip to California:

Hello all!!

I am here in sunny California…..Well, actually, it isn’t that sunny, we only had a few hot days. So all of those back home in Alberta, you really aren’t missing much. You are only missing my brother Zach, and my dad Ryan, riding every day, the fam jam running every morning (of course, me rolling), and, oh yeah…there is absolutely no snow. My grandparents also found the time to fly over here from Florida to join us in another holiday in California. How many people can say their grandparents joined them in yet another motocross trip?!

We haven’t really done much other than hang-out at the tracks and Zach has found some Alberta Pros to ride with as well. Zach and I plan on going to Pole Position because apparently they have hand controls.. SCORE! Guess I will be spending most of my time there due to missing out on the motocross track. Unfortunately, because of insurance issues, we are playing it safe and I will be sitting on the sidelines with my brand new 90 quad that my brother schemed to get for me while videoing him falling over. If that isn’t brother-sister love, I don’t know what is. I may also chase down some Pros and hang with them. Playing the cripple card is always a good time, especially when it involves some Pros.

Speaking of Pros, we will also be heading to the first round in Anaheim to watch the action go down. Round one is always the best because you never know what is going to happen. Of course, I will be playing the cripple card again with skipping lines and having good service. I swear my brother only loves me when the cripple card can be played.

From there, I will be leaving mom, Teri, and Zach behind so he can continue training for the nationals. I will be heading home with dad to continue with our regular lives. So those at home in the cold and snow, I’m sorry and hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Wow, it sounds like the whole Roth family is having a great time. You have got to love when you hear of an entire family enjoying a moto trip. Thanks for the great update, Sierra, and we hope to hear from you again real soon.

For the next few days, I plan on checking my mailbox regularly for my “Christmas gift.”  I will be impatiently awaiting the arrival of my brand new Rekluse clutch from Kevin Kinrade and the fantastic gang at Mongoose Machine. I cannot wait to throw a leg over the DMX test bike and put in some serious laps with this fantastic product. Keep your eyes posted for a 3-part test story coming real soon.

Well, I believe I hear the dinner bell ringing again. Be sure to check out my latest Christmas 5 Lap Sprint, and this week’s Out Of The Blue with Leah Ricard. I hope everyone has a great holiday and don’t forget to #smileforBC!

That will do it for this very brief Frid’Eh Update. If you have any moto-related Christmas photos you’d care to share, please send them to billy@directmotocross.com and we’ll be sure to make fun, er, I mean, share them with the world here on DMX. Thanks for reading – Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Season’s Greetings.
