Grab another cup for this edition of Monday Morning Coffee where we talk about some of what happened in Motocross and usually much more…
By Billy Rainford
Just when you think the 8 days at the beginning of November are the perfect time to take a vacation, we get lots of moto-related things happening! Emily and I decided to go on our first-ever cruise last week. We left from the port of Miami and were supposed to hit Jamaica first. Well, as you can imagine, that wasn’t going to happen after Hurricane Melissa, so our first port of call was the island of Cozumel in Mexico instead.
We signed up for a snorkelling tour and had a blast. We rented a 125 Honda scooter and zipped across the island to the other side just to see what was up. Nothing was up. We came back and got back on the ship and I probably went down and got another gourmet pizza. (It sort of became a nightly snack for me.)
Of course, as this was happening Daniel Elmore was going to race round 8 of the Costa Rican Motocross Nationals and Derek Schuster announced that they’d signed young phenom Dylan Rempel to the Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing team on the 250.
Not only that, it was round 1 of the 2025 World Supercross Championship in Argentina and we had a couple Canadians on the line in the 250 class. Cole Thompson ended up going 4-4-4 for 4th and Noah Viney was 14-14-14 for 14th.

There’s always something going on in our sports and even the first week of November is a tough time to go away for a week!
Our next stop was in Grand Cayman. The place they try to take you is way too busy. We hopped in a local bus and asked the driver (we were the only one in it and it was just his personal van) where we should go and he took us to Cemetery Beach which was empty and perfect.

Finally, we went to Bimini in the Bahamas, just about 80 miles off the coast of Florida. We saw at least 10 nurse sharks just from the pier as we walked from the ship to the island. They were prodding the masses onto trams that went directly to the Virgin-owned resort area, but we decided to walk a little further and grab our own ride somewhere else in a golf cart taxi.
We were glad we did and found a much more “local” bar on a beach and went snorkelling there and saw a ton of interesting fish as soon as we dipped in.
We walked down the main road that splits the island and headed into a small marina beside Big John’s Bar and Grill. As soon as we did, what looks like a pretty big bull shark swam below us with a remora on it! Emily was not impressed at having just been in the water with this thing also in there. I wanted to stay there all day and watch this shark cruise around! It did come around once more which was cool. Check it out:
Anyway, that was our first time on a cruise and neither of us had very high hopes of loving it, but we managed to find things to do that were away from the masses. We don’t like having our entertainment spoon fed to us, but we ended up having a pretty good time. Virgin Cruises have no kids and no buffets, so that part is a plus if that suits you.
Will we ever go on another one? That’s a tough question.
We came home to this:

It will be gone in a couple days right before we head out to Vancouver for Round 2 of the FIM WSX Championship at BC Place downtown.
I missed this race last year and said I wouldn’t miss it again. Emily is still on holidays so she’s going to make the trip with me and we’ll drive her insane with stories and memories when my old hockey team meets up for dinner and drinks somewhere on Main Street Thursday night. I’m gonna love it! Sorry, Em. Go, Warthogs!

Oh, and Bill Van Vugt from right here in my hometown of London won the 80+ class at the 2025 Dubya World Vet Championships at Glen Helen! I’m sure you’ve already seen the photos of him. We’ll have a cool little story about it up on the site later this afternoon, so watch for that.
You can look at the results from the event HERE.
Check this out. I got a message that parts of my old #DMXVan have been seen driving around the Ottawa area.

OK, I’ll try to get a couple podcast interviews up today with some of our riders who are doing cool things lately. Have a great week and we’ll see you in Vangroovy this weekend!
After Vancouver it’s time for another trip down to Gatoback Cycle Park in Newberry, Florida, for the Mini O’s!
