Frid’Eh Update #52 | Teren Gerber | Brought to You by Dirt Care
Week #52 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update belongs to Teren Gerber from Calgary, AB and is brought to you by Dirt Care
By Billy Rainford

Welcome to Week #52 of the DMX Frid’Eh Update brought to you by Dirt Care. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and is enjoying some Holiday time with family and friends. Here in London, we’re experiencing a really bad ice storm situation. Everyone is pretty much trapped in their houses and the power has been going off all across the city at different times. We’ve been lucky here at our place and haven’t lost it at all yet. The neighbour’s massive tree is looking dangerously bent so we moved the new DMX Van out from underneath it. The van is one big piece of ice right now.

Teren Gerber from Calgary, Alberta, is another rider we’ve known for many of years. He’s been pulling away from chasing the entire Canadian Triple Crown Series Motocross Nationals, but we did see him on a 450 at the first 2 rounds in 2025 at Wild Rose MX in Calgary and in Cold Lake, AB. He finished 14-10 in the 2 races and looked pretty comfortable on the 450.
He’s getting more and more competitive in Downhill Mountain Bike racing, so it will be interesting to keep an eye on how he progresses in this next challenge.
Being that it was in the middle of the Christmas Break, I appreciate Teren getting to our interview during this busy time. Here’s what he had to say when we contacted him:

Direct Motocross: Hey Teren, I haven’t seen you in a while. I know it’s been a tough season for you. Let’s back up to that weird upper femur and scaphoid break. How did you do that and what was the recovery like?
Teren Gerber: Hey, Billy. Yeah, so in October 2024 I had a very dumb crash on my first lap out on a practice day. Let’s just say I wasn’t as used to a 450 as I thought I was. Haha. Anyways, I dislocated my wrist and broke my scaphoid and then also broke the knuckle off on the top of my femur. 2 weird injuries which both required surgery. Recovery was tough on the wrist, but was fairly quick on the femur. The wrist was about 7-8 months until I could think about riding. Took a lot of pt just to get most of my motion back.
What did you miss more, MTB or Moto?
I might have to lean towards the mtb. I sure have been enjoying that these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love dirt biking but the mountain biking on the west coast is so good.

You were pulling away from chasing the Canadian Triple Crown Series, right? Can you take us through that decision?
Honestly, the mountain bikes drove me away I’d say. I like doing the couple nationals that we get out here that are close but just not worth it for me to chase it anymore. I am pretty much doing whatever races I feel like doing these days. There is no money in the sport, so I might as well do what I enjoy most.
Like most of us, you’ve gotten more and more into MTB racing. How long have been doing the downhill stuff?
Yes, definitely doing that a lot lately. I have raced downhill for 2 years and 1 year of enduro racing before that.

Hey, you actually said, “Anything but moto” in an Instagram post. You still feel like that?
Just started to take note that my Instagram mostly involves moto so was nice to get in a couple other things that I do in my life. Haha.
What do you do for school and/or work? Is that your career future?
Still working on finding a career, just take things year by year right now. Currently working for Horizon Drilling as a roughneck on a drilling rig. I’ll do that for the winter again then go race all summer. Still enjoying my younger years and chasing some goals on the mountain bike.
You haven’t posted anything on IG is few months. What have you been doing with yourself?
Yeah, nothing too exciting lately. Pretty well spend my time mountain biking, dirt biking or now snowboarding. On a 20/10 schedule for work so still get some time off to get some activities in.

The AMA FIM Arenacross will be hitting Calgary. What will you be doing when that happens?
Yeah, pretty cool to see that. Won’t be racing it but if it lines up with my work schedule I’ll definitely go watch.
And what about next summer and MX in the future? Will we be seeing you again?
Yeah, not sure my exact plan yet but I’ll definitely race the Calgary National and possibly the Pilot Mound round. Then I’ll do some of the SOR series that Jared Stock puts on and also as many downhill races as I can do. Have a goal to get my pro card and try and race Crankworx at Whistler.
What did you and your family do for Christmas? Is it a big deal with you guys?
Yes, had a good Christmas. Was a bit of a smaller Christmas on my side of the family but had a couple nice Christmas’s on my girlfriend’s side.
How old are you now, anyway? And what about your height and weight? Let’s get these stats down.
Currently 25, weigh about 160 pounds and 5’11″.
OK, thanks for catching up with us for the final week of the year. Good luck with everything and do you want to thank anyone?
Yeah, thank you for the interview, Billy. Would like to thank Todd Schumlick with Perform X Training, Shawn with Action Sports Clinic, Danika White with Troy Lee Designs, CJR suspension, and the Wilde family at Mountains Edge.
I’ve been uploading all of the 1980’s Toronto Supercross races I’ve got on my hard drive during this break. If you’re a little advanced in age or you just enjoy Motocross History, you’ll enjoy watching some of these old races from Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto, Ontario. The Toronto Supercross became the first race inside the “new” Skydome in 1989, but I don’t have that video. Check them out:
And here’s the 1989 race at the Skydome from The Motocross Race Vault page:
Guillaume St Cyr to Beta Canada
This move will see Guillaume St Cyr racing the entire Canadian Triple Crown Series in the 450 class. It’ll be great to have him back and see what he can do on the big 450 Beta.
SMX Preview Show Saturday at 4:00pm Eastern
Next week it will be 2026 and we’ll be handing out our annual DMX Awards, so watch for that. Enjoy the rest of your Holidays and Happy New Year!
