It’s hard to believe another Canadian AX series has come and gone. Strangely, this was the 2nd 2014 championship we’ve had – last year’s AX series covered both 2013 and 2014 so we called it 2014. But I digress…
Anyway, ‘Faces at the Races’ is always my favourite article to work on when I get home from an event. From what I’ve been told, the celebrations went on till the wee hours of the morning, but I wasn’t there to snap shots…and that’s probably for the best.
Here’s a closer look at some of the poeple who were in Chilliwack, BC last weekend.
Let’s start this one off with our buddy Mike. Mike is a nice guy and takes a lot of photos at the races. However, I’ve never seen any of them. Is he good?
Steve Matthes of Pulp MX and Tim Ferry super fan fame was in the house for the final round and was apparently holding court. Hey, how does young Tyler Gibbs get in almost every photo I take around the Cycle North pits?!
It’s hard to know what to laugh at first in this one.
No matter how old you get or how many races you’ve been to, you’re never too old or experienced to get advice from your dad as Kyle Springman demonstrates.
Summer Knowles and Cycle North’s Kourtney Lloyd trying to get off the ‘naughty list.’ Or maybe they just put themselves ON it!
A bunch of great Future West Moto workers…and Adam Enticknap.
Everyone knows how much Colleen Millsaps hates to have her photo taken, right? Well, I am now on the run for taking this shot of Gente Bella/FWM’s Lesley Reid.
The 50cc riders running out in front of the crowd during RTR Performance opening ceremonies. Did anyone else notice the one little kid who fell at least 3 times every time they did this?
Little Travis Gibbs warming up his bike with his dad Paul.
They had lots of cool Christmas-themed activities to keep the fans entertained.
A young FMX fan and probably rider in the making. What if that glove actually fits him?!
I just realized I left #476 Collin Jurin out of the photo report. Sorry, Collin. He took 3rd in both Open mains on the weekend too!
Here are two of the good guys in moto – Matthew and Dylan Schmoke.
I don’t think he appreciated being called ‘man friend’ last week and now I have forgotten PR-MX JT Racing Jake Anstett’s mechanic’s name again.
Oh well, man friend it is!
Getting ready with the Lime Nine 30-second board.
Anstett going with a heel clicker even though I have a ‘no heel clicker’ policy that I seem to be ignoring lately.
Watching some racing while waiting for his moto.
Sending out a one-footed golf clap for inspiration.
Wyatt Waddell and Kyle Springman made it in again.
Moments like these are what we live for.
Riders got together and presented Lesley Reid with this cool framed photo at the awards ceremony.
Gotcha again, Lesley!
Then the Pro riders presented her with this signed jersey.
Open champ Ross Johnson showed up for this photo about 10 seconds after these three walked away.
Taking in some racing Saturday night.
Just seconds after Kourtney was doused with champagne, this #1 plate from Chris ‘Dude, Where’s My Car’ Sweet turned that frown upsidedown very quickly.
The Cycle North team with the big #1. I fake HDR’d this shot just for fun.
Rachel Springman grabbed Lissimore’s camera and grabbed a bunch of pit shots at the end of the night.
And now that’s really it from the 2014 Future West Canadian AX Championships. With the great competition and new non-conflicting schedule, watch for it to be even better in 2015!
Joanne Malone is truly the glue holding things together out there. Thanks for everything. She was thrilled to have my camera pointed at her as she was saying, “See you at the races…” or words to that effect.
