Monday Morning Coffee Opinion Column

Grab a small this week for Monday Morning Coffee where we talk about what happened in Motocross and usually more.

I hope you all had a great Christmas. We did some family visiting and had turkey twice and roast beef once. It was fantastic! Unfortunately, we’ve been trapped in a crazy ice storm here in London the past few days. Everything is still covered in ice outside but it has now been raining steadily for the past day-and-a-half.

OK, so now it’s a snowstorm and the wind is howling. It has been a ridiculous week for weather here in southwestern Ontario, to say the least.

Did you watch the SMX Preview show? If you missed it, you can watch it here:

No wait, wrong Hunter…
Nope…
Now we’re way off!
That’s the one. Hunter Lawrence is my choice for Supercross champion in 2026. | Brown Dog Wilson photo

Without Jett Lawrence in the mix, the Supercross title should come down to an entertaining battle. I think the main players who will be duking it out for the title are Hunter Lawrence, Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton, and Cooper Webb. I give the edge in the championship to Hunter.

Behind these 4, teammates Ken Roczen and Jason Anderson will be in the conversation, but not for the title. Justin Cooper will get out front off the start on a regular basis.

I’m interested to see where Dylan Ferrandis and Justin Barcia fit in on the new Ducatti. I don’t think they’ll grab any wins but you never know.

I have Malcolm Stewart, Joey Savatgy, RJ Hampshire, Jorge Prado, and Aaron Plessinger getting a nice taste of the top 8-10 but not in the title conversation.

What do you think? Who do you have fighting for this title? We’re only a couple weekends away from finding out.

I will be in Toronto for the AMA FIM Arenacross Championship double-header at the International Centre to see how this cross-border racing plays out. It’s too bad it’s on the same weekend, but I have to support the race on Canadian soil. Greg Poisson will be with me at the 50th annual Supershow and the races Friday, so be sure to say hello when you see us.

Can Cole Thompson use the hometown crowd to his advantage and pull off a popular win? We’ll also have Julien Benek on the WLTN Kawasaki for this round. He was very impressive going undefeated in the West Coast Arenacross series, so he should also be in this one fighting for podiums.

Round 3 is this coming weekend in Loveland, Colorado.

I got some pretty fancy ear plugs for Christmas that will help me at the races. It may be too little too late but just remember to talk a little louder next time you see me at a race. Of course, that is if I remember to actually put them in…

Sorry this one is a little late and a little lacking this week. We had to take Olive to the Vet this morning. Everything is fine but we had to get it checked out.

Like I’ve said in a couple recent Instagram posts, I’ve taken a little bit of time off during this Holiday season. Emily rarely gets days off this time of year so we’ve been doing family visits and enjoying some time with them that we don’t normally get to do.

As I look out the window of DMX World HQ, the snow is starting to pile up again. It’s been relentless around here!

Happy New Year to everyone. I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to cover our Canadians wherever they’re racing very soon. Thanks to everyone who supported DMX in 2025 and we’re looking forward to a few new things this coming year, so be sure to come along for the ride with us.
