How did you get started riding and racing?

My dad introduced me to the sport. I started riding in the backyard. My parents took me to my first race and I fell in love with it.

What was your first race number and how did you choose it?

123. I don’t know really. It sounded cool to me and it just stuck.

Whats your favourite subject in school?

Gym and social studies.

JR’s favourite track is Motocross Deschambault in Quebec. | Bigwave photo

What is your favourite track and why?

ECAN (Motocross Deschambault) because it’s sand and got lots of big hills.

Who is your favourite rider and why?

Chase Sexton because I like his style on the bike and I think he’s cool.

What Canadian Pro do you look up to and why?

Jess Pettis and Dylan Rempel because they are great riders and I want to be a pro like them when I’m older.

Who is your hero?

My mom and dad and God.

JR grabbed a 5th at the 2025 RCSX at Daytona International Speedway. | Bigwave photo

How did your 2025 season go? Did you meet your expectations?

My 2025 season went good. Yes and no. I was happy I got a gold bib at TransCan and I’m on my way to winning the championship for the AMO series in the 7-9 class, but I had bike issues for 3 big national races that kept me from meeting my expectations for those races.

What was your best race and how did you do at the TransCan GNC at Walton Raceway?

The North Central Loretta Lynns regional at Tigerton MX was my best race. I took the overall in the 65 (7-9) Limited class and 2nd overall in the 65 (7-9) class. TransCan I did well but my bike failed me in the second moto so I was out of the championship. I went 2-DNF-1 in the 65 (7-9) and 9-8-4 in the 65 (7-11).

What are your plans for the rest of the season and this coming winter?

My plans the rest of the season are to finish the AMO season strong then head south to train before Mini O’s. I’ll come home for December and head to Florida in January to train hard until April.

JR will finish out the AMO series and then get ready for the Mini O’s at Gatorback in November. | Bigwave photo

What classes will you be racing next season?

65 (10-11), 65 (7-11) and 85 (7-11)

What are the big races you’re planning to attend?

Spring Nationals, Daytona, ECAN, Loretta’s, TransCan, Mini O’s, Baja Brawl and Ponca.

What are your goals for next season, and what is it going to take to reach them?

My goals are to get faster and and better with my technique. Be in the top 5 fastest riders in my class.

What are your biggest accomplishments?

5th place at RCSX 2025, winning the North Central Regional, winning 2 motos at ECAN, winning a moto at TransCan, winning a moto at the Baja Brawl.

What is your favourite thing about going to the races?

Meeting new people, racing new tracks and winning races.

Remember the name “JR Gionette” as he moves his way up through the ranks. | Bigwave photo

What do you like to do when you arent racing? What other sports or activities do you do?

I love to play golf, mountain biking, riding bikes and working out.

You just raced the Baja Brawl at Baja Acres, how did it go?

Went good. Had a bad crash in one moto couldn’t finish that race. Won a moto and missed 3rd overall for the 65 (7-9) Limited by one point. The last time I raced The Brawl in 2023 I placed 20th in the 50 class. I am proud of my progress from all of the training I’ve done since that.

Thanks for talking with us. Good luck next season and who would you like to thank?

Thank you. My mom and dad for everything they do for me to do this and FTA, Alpha moto apparrel, Trex Moto X, Compound 138, SRS Motosports.
